The early (2008-early 2012) Spyders experienced Oil Filter (and on the SE5's) Trans Filter Collapse. This will take out an engine in pretty short order. I have no idea how many times this occurred. But it was enough for BRP to re-engineer both filters in the summer of 2012. The current BRP filters are of very good construction with an excellent filter medium and I am not aware of any failure of the upgraded product now being used.
At this stage of the game this sounds like a freak failure. I hope they are able to find a reason for the filter collapse.
