Excess heat in the seat
I realize there was/is a mod purchase for the 2013 Spyders that has been used by others on the later models, but I’m wondering if anyone has tried lifting their seat and putting foil wrapped insulation down. Seems to me that using that insulation under the seat plus having a sheepskin butt pad on top of the seat should make an immense difference. Anybody? 2014 RTS-SE6.

I have 67K miles on my Spyder and I don't notice any excess heat in the BRP Comfort Seat, and I live in a lot warmer climate and always wear mesh pants and jacket spring through fall.

otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

I have 51,000 km on mine with the stock seat, and I honestly didn’t really notice it in previous years, but as I get older (now 77) I find that at 70* F all is well, but over 75* my butt starts to ache/burn after about 1 1/2 hours and getting off and walking around for 15 - 20 minutes helps but only for about 15 minutes. I purchased a butt pad from Alaska Leather, and it helps, but..... so I’m still not a happy ryder nd still looking for a solution.

Well Bruce, I'm in the same age group as you. I think what you are experiencing is our inability to turn the clock back. Things happen with age. I had the stock seat on my Spyder and the best combination for me was an AirHawk seat pad with an Alaska Sheepskin on top of that. I don't think heat was the issue but rather my aging and aching bones..... Jim

Thanks for that, Jim....I think . That’s a situation that I don’t like to consider, but....I totally agree with you as to age being a definite factor. I also think that my having Leukemia is also a consideration. Now, with all that said, I am looking for a solution, without spending an arm and a leg....I just can’t afford losing either one of those.

Seat Beads. Looked uncomfortable to me. But got them anyway. Really lets a lot of air in between the bum and the seat. Works great in the rain as well because the water does not pool under you and soak through your rain gear.
Quite comfortable, actually!

Beads
I have a 2013 with 55k miles on it. I added some insulation under the seat which helped a little, not much.
I tried other solutions but found that the beads worked the best for me. Lets a lot of air move beneath you.

I just found out that my son has an airhawk that he doesn’t use, so I’m going to give it a try. Thanks to all for their suggestions. Very much appreciated.

That is a good solution. I used to use the Airhawk a lot for butt pain. It will most likely insulate against heat.

Do the vent kit mod...I will do wonders for your under the seat and glove box heat...Its inexpensive and relatively easy...

I just came home from a day ride, where the temperatures ranged between 86*F and 100*F and with the airhawk and my sheepskin over top of it, I made out just fine. My butt started burning a bit towards the end, but it was still doable. Many thanks for suggesting the airhawk.

I am just now reading this thread, hoping for some relief. I rode 375 miles yesterday, Spring City, Guardsman Pass, Mirror Lake Highway, Provo Canyon, Spanish Fork canyon. As you can tell much of the road was in the mountains. I have Dave's gel pad, I have the air scoops on a 2012, and I have beaded seat pad. I was still hot in the seat and by the end of that ride I was sore from those beads. I think I will try a sheep seat pad next. (say that 5 times real fast). I have not had that problem in the past, but have not been 74 before either, that may be the cause of all in the end(no pun intended)

I made risers from 2x4 and lifted the entire seat up 1.5 inches. Metal edges friction grip the frame, easy to put in and out. You can hardly tell the seat is up unless you really look close. Much reduced best in seat.
Take them out below 60 degrees, when heat is good. And they help with riding posture, more upright.

I have a 2018 RTL and we put a sheepskin seat cover on a year ago and love it.. we can get on the seat and ride even during 100 degree days and no hot issues AND it is warmer during the cool season also..
