Deadwood 3Wheel Rally, 2023 - Getting ready to leave!
Deadwood SD 3 Wheel Rally 2023. Never too early to start planning. I already booked my room at the Travelodge Inn in Deadwood. Right across from the Rally Center
I’m looking at making fuel/rest stops in Haugan, Deer Lodge, Bozeman and Billings MT. Spending the night in Billings and then a fuel stop in Buffalo WY and finally on to Deadwood. These will be roughly 175 mile legs which my tired old body will appreciate.
I so wanted to attend this last Rally in July, but unfortunately a family emergency cropped up which put the kibosh to that. But not this next one.

I need to start researching as well. Pulling my toy hauler, so looking for the best campground to stay at for the rally. Any recommendations out there?

Also booked at the Travel Lodge and looking forward to it. Never been to this Rally. Was suppose to go last year but shattered my left foot in April and had surgery to remove the hardware just before the Rally. Very excited about 2023.
We will be coming from Indianapolis. We are making 2 days of the trip out - the wife and best friend will be trailering their 2 Spyders and I'll be riding mine. Can't wait!

I'm thinking about attending Deadwood next year. Debating whether or not to ryde all the way or trailer The Thing out there...
I did a 3,000 mile trip to Cape Breton and Nova Scotia this past June. I figure going to Deadwood would be at least 5,000 miles round trip for me coming from Connecticut. I can handle the physical endurance needed. Gas mileage would be almost 3 to 1 of the Spyder versus the truck and trailer. I guess it'll depend on if the wife won't mind me being away for two weeks and/or if I find other ryders to do the trip with.

I’m booked at the Travelodge from the 11th to the 15th. My plan is to leave out of town early on the morning of the 10th. For me, the longest leg of the trip will of course be through Montana. So I plan to press on to Billings MT and spend the night, then finish to Deadwood on the 11th. The trip is only about 890 miles and I’m planning to ride the whole way. This will be the longest single road trip I’ve ever taken on my Spyder.

If you are looking for the basics of basics for campground, days 76 is it! Beautiful shower room and toilet area. That’s it. There was no tables or pits last time we were there. You can spin semis around in there and parking spots are unlimited length. It’s a huge flat area. Price is awesome. BE AWARE ITS DUSTY! There is no grass at least when we were there with the horse trailer 5 years ago there wasn’t . It’s a pure dirt turn around like at fair grounds. Water and electric was at every site. Building was immaculate! Prices were like $24 a night but I imagine they are in upper $30’slower $40’s now. Camping has gotten outrageous now a days! Through the rodeo grounds you could walk to the center. The KOA was nice and is just down the road but last I checked KOA were like $80-$90 a night. Those are the only 2 places we stayed at in past. The rodeo grounds probably 5 or 6 times when wife had horses.

We will be there , GOD willing. Third year in a row for us. Staying at the Travelodge. We take 5 days to get there trailering the Spyder to the rally. We do mainly back roads, slower and less traffic. Plus we get to see old time America along the way. Tom
Baloo is my name. Spyders are my game. Well, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, yes, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, I mean a doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee-dee-doo. And, well, now. Ha ha! What have we here?

It’s not a huge event, so chances are you will meet up with others from here. Met up with a few from this site a couple years ago, was cruising Alaska last year so didn’t get a chance in 22.

Phew... I'm glad I only have about an 890 mile trip. I'll be doing on overnighter in Billings, MT.
