Have to say "no problems" other than a bit rough running since the recall. I haven't ridden lately due to health issues. At this point may just deal with it even if I ride it some in the cold weather until I ride it more regularly next summer. I'm just not sure about doing the update to the recall.

Only performance modification is the Hindle. More backfiring and popping since the recall. Though some of that was there before too. Maybe I'm just becoming paranoid with all the issues a few people have had. I may ask tatt2r to ride it in the spring for me and see what he thinks. I'm not sure I trust my own judgement what to do at this point.

edit to add: SM5 '08 almost 6000 miles

08 SM5 over 4000 miles, installed catch can and extended the vent tube back in July. I would not consider anything a problem. Main reason for the catch can is because I'm too lazy to clean off the oil.

08 SM5 over 3000 miles, just a little steering issue, fixed, bothe updates done and no problems. Love the feeling of riding this machine.

    Default none since the...

updates. We have three in the family. Two running the stock exhaust and one with a custom lower manifold with a GL1800 muffler on each side. All running very good.

I think a pole vote would be more informative at a summary level..
    1. No problems ever
    2. Problems but resolved.
    3. Problems out of service.
    4. Problems in progress, but still riding.
    Just a suggestion.

08 yellow SM, no update, 12,000 plus miles. Biggest problem I've had is finding time to put more miles on it, biggest problem after that, is finding money for more mods.

Good point, and sorry I did not think about that when first posting. I do not know how to possibly change it to a poll, now that it has been up and running like this. I will definitely do that if there is a next time. Thanks for the suggestion.

    2008 SM5 - Premier #836 - Silver - 14,800 miles.

    Minor Issues
Oil in air box. Tried catch can but later switched to glass (see through) in-line filter with hose connected back to air box (as OEM). No more problems (both solved oil in air box issue, just like the in-line filter better).

Parking brake was difficult to release. Dealer installed new, improved part when I had it in for steering problem. Problem solved. BRP updated faulty part in production so should no longer be an issue in later models.

    Major issues - non hazardous
A lot of dirt on throttle body side of air box. Quite disturbing after only a few hundred miles. Switched to aftermarket, high flow air filter, no more problems. BRP has since corrected this on later models.

No power steering out of the crate to about 7,600 miles when Lamont rode it and discovered the problem. I didn't know because I had nothing to compare it to.

Dealer checked ECM, replaced GPS, DPS with no improvement. BRP said replace Power Steering unit but 2 weeks for delivery of part. Dealer took PS unit out of floor model. Works great ever since.

    Update status
Had Update #1 in August? Spyder ran great before taking it in (with no complaints). Ran even better after the update. Less exhaust popping (almost gone). Mileage remained as good or better than pre-update #1 (about 36mpg).

    Have not had Update #2.

    Misc info
Tried several aftermarket exhausts, settled on the Yoshimura from NMN. Added Juice box, high flow air filter, inline filter on crank case vent hose, canister-ectomy, handlebar mounted mirrors w/NMN risers, plus misc. NMN lighting and Toyo T1R rear tire.

I did the canister-ectomy not because I had any fuel smell issues or purge valve problems. I just wanted to do it so I did. Since I wasn't having any problems with it to start with there was no difference after. I just like it better...There is just no accounting for some people's actions...go figure!

I am a very happy Spyder owner. I am happy with Alcoa Good Times (dealer), with BRP and with the machine. I've had a lot of bikes in the past and the Spyder has exceeded my expectations.

One unexpected bonus has been meeting/riding with really great people. Just think, I would never have met Forrest had I not owned a Spyder. That in itself is nearly worth the price!

    NO PROBLEMS WORTH MENTIONING.
Well maybe one------seems like every day I take it out I have to stop and fill up with fuel. I start off full and 6 hours latter I have to stop again for fuel.
13 thousand plus miles but who's counting.

    Default 10,000 plus -

10,000 plus miles and no problems. Have had the first update but not the second. Lamonster's oil trap installed and evap cannister removed. Recently rode 1400 miles with lots of twists and turns and no steering problems - never have had one. You can't beat the spyder for riding in the rain! A big plus in western Oregon.

Hey! I'm having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM! I think you've hit on something! Now I wonder how many others are having this same issue!

And I'll bet BRP is playing dumb about it too!

Where is my NHTSA link....I'm not laying down for this defect! This is OUTRAGEOUS!

'08 SM5, I've got over 6000 miles so far. Very reliable and well designed machine. I've had the 1st update, no need for the 2nd one.

2008 PE SM5 w/7500 miles. Mods are in my signature... no risers.

has run awesome since day 1 (April 2008.) Continues to run awesome to this day.

    No problems.

Minor nit early on... Squealing rear brakes. Removed the pads, greased the backs and pins, no more squeal; that was done 3000 miles ago.

    No problems.
