Default The "REAL DEAL" Owners Experience - Rollcall

Come one and come all..... Yes you heard it folks, all are welcome here!!

Problems or no problems, this thread is all-inclusive!!!

    welcome 's

Being a realist, I would like to collect impressions and stats from ALL Spyder owners. As others have stated there are Problem threads, so you should go there to talk in depth about problems.

This Rollcall is designed to capture the owner community impressions in real-time. Meaning over the course of ownership on most products an owners ultimate determination on a product may sway wildly depending on the experience they have with a product. Example being someone can initially have a very bad experience, but over time that can subside to leave an owner with an overall good experience based on positive factors of many kinds and vice versa.

So with that being said, I would like to see how the ownership experience stands the test of time.

Initially some key points should be given to start -

(Please copy and paste the below for your response)

    Year, model, and number -
    Current Miles -
    Length of ownership -
    Shop time (total) -
Time since last tech issue - (numeric or none (for the lucky ones))
    Satisfaction when riding - (1-10)
Value for the money - (1-10) (stock Spyder)
    Dollars spent on extras -
Value for the money + extras - (1-10) (Did the money spent increase or decrease the Value for the money?)
Overall Spyder satisfaction rating - (1-10)
Thoughts at this moment - keep it short

**NOTE - If you find it worth expounding on one of the items, link a thread to your answer to provide more detail or an example. This is not limited in any way (good or bad), just want to keep the responses as concise as possible, while at the same time providing a mechanism for more detail without cluttering things up.

THEN - Over time if an owner feels the need to check back in and update the data, that would be great. I think it will be interesting to see how these points stand the test of time. Be sure to update your mileage and other key points as relevant when doing so.

Hopefully if this works out we can mine some good stats out of here. Lets see how it goes.

I have a 2008 SM5 PE# 3783. I have over 25,000 miles on it. Bought it new from the dealership ($1000 deposit in August 2007) and took delivery in March 2008.

I've spent a lot of money on mods, both BRP and aftermarket, and I've been blessed with the opportunity to demo other mods for free. While the prices may seem high, I think each one has served it's purpose so the value was great.

It's been in the shop for two months now (waiting on parts) and probably a total of 7 days before that. I still like it as much as the day I bought it and will continue to ride it as much as I can.

    Current Miles - Around 28,000
Length of ownership -Deposit Sept. 2007, Delivery March of 2008
Shop time (total) - In shop for Engine clunking since end of Sept. Letting them take apart and rebuild my engine. The service Manager is in touch with BRP and takes photos as they find anything unusual or that looks worn prematurely. He has carte blanch to order any parts as needed. I know I could probably have a new engine delivered to me but I am hoping by my service guy getting right in there and reporting back to BRP that in the long run this will help other spyder owners. Also, I will know that my service manager knows my engine inside and out. I am confident in his abilities and I think this will make him even better as a service tech on the spyder. I plan on keeping my spyder for some time and I like knowing I can go for service with confidence. The biggest issue and time waster is the continuous, lengthy wait for parts to be delivered.
Time since last tech issue - Spyder is there now. No issues with my tech though. He is very accommodating and very competent and spyder knowledgeable.

"Value for the money + extras - Redundant"

My thought process here is for all those that spend big $$ on parts to make the spyder what they want and how they feel about that money spent and the delta between Value for the money and Value for the money + extras.

I have seen many posts of those that have performed some major upgrades and provided anecdotal thoughts on whether the money for the extras was worth it.

Ex. - In essence does the money spent on full Corbin setup bring the everyday spyder from a Value for the money =6 to a Value for the money + extras = 10 for that ryder.

I definetly see how this point could be missed as admittedly my brain marches to it's own beat and that was not presented well.

Send me a PM if you have some advice on how to reword that so it is clearer or if it should just get yanked. I am borderline.

I have had 0 serious problems - the battery cable came loose and caused codes once.
The machine is a blast to ride and I ride it hard and it has been flawless thus far (knock on wood)
The ride would be a 10 if I could turn the VSS off when I wanted to.
Lots of mods planned for the Spyder still!

Thoughts at this moment - keep it short: Summer is way too short in the Great White North. Only 5 months more to wait 'til spring ...

Thoughts at this moment - My shop time reflects a couple of things.... A parts issue with BRP, and partly my preference to drop the Spyder with them on a saturday and pick it up the next Saturday... So three out of the five weeks of shop time was planned, where as two weeks was BRP screwing up a part order 3 times.
