• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Yeah, except at our age there doesn't need to be any wind to get it back!

    2019 RTL won't shift up (fixed'ish - only now it's un-fixed again!)

Did the shop disconnect the brake flash modulator? That's one of the first things shops like to do, blame the problem on DIY electrical addons. I would say they don't know what they are talking about. There is no electrical tie-in between the shift circuit and the brake lights. I really believe...

Anyone ever back-fed their battery maintainer thru a USB port?

You mean feed the battery from the maintainer through a USB port on the Spyder. That can't be made to work at all. USB is 5 volts and the bike electrical is 12 volts. Plug your maintainer into a USB port and you'll burn up the USB adapter for sure.

For years I've been intending to organize the SPPPA, Society for the Promotion and Preservation of Procrastination in America, but I just haven't gotten around to it! :roflblack:

    2019 RTL won't shift up (fixed'ish - only now it's un-fixed again!)

I believe the shifter switch is a silicone rubber bubble with a copper or brass metal film. When the switch is pressed a nubbin pushes down on the bubble and makes contact with another copper patch. At least that's the way the starter button is configured on my 2014 RT. What happens is the metal...

RIP - GKAMER - A former Member here...

All I could find using Google is his age and supposed apartment address. Makes me wonder if there even is a family.

RIP - GKAMER - A former Member here...

The funeral home site: https://danekas.danekasfh.com/ There is no info about services nor an obituary. Supposedly later. He was 70. I presume the family is still in deep shock and trying to deal with his passing, especially since it happened on Christmas Eve. I tried to find out more info...

    No Competition for Can Am

As is every vehicle. When's the last time you ever saw a Stutz Bearcat! :D That was part of it, but I think a bigger reason was Honda built a versatile power sports factory in Japan that can produce, I believe, every motorcycle on one assembly line. The Ohio Goldwing factory was adjacent to...

Your thoughts on When to change spark plugs?

Based on my one-time experience, no you don't need to remove the frunk, but it probably makes the job easier. Maybe this will help you: https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?115352-RT-1330-Spark-plug-changeout-Part-1&highlight=spark+plug

Your thoughts on When to change spark plugs?

Just exactly what is the role of resistance in assessing the health of a spark plug? The only unwanted resistance I can fathom is between the electrode and the outer metal body of the plug. So is this a case of if that resistance drops low, i.e., approaching a short circuit condition, the coil...

Screen lit up with Ign, then went blank with start - HELP PLEASE?!

I see it's a -BS battery. Did you put the acid in or did the store? If the store any idea how long ago, and had they charged it before you got it?

Your thoughts on When to change spark plugs?

That was the case already 15 years ago. I got burned by counterfeit Gillette Mach III razor blades. Almost ripped the skin off my face. By the time I needed to use them and discovered they were counterfeit the eBay seller was gone. The tell tale sign was the "Made in XXX" on the package...

Screen lit up with Ign, then went blank with start - HELP PLEASE?!

I don't think you need to be concerned about the CCA (cold cranking amps) rating. That matters only if you are going to leave the bike parked in cold, cold, weather. In normal weather a Spyder takes a minimal amount of juice to start. If it doesn't start right off you have other problems that...

Screen lit up with Ign, then went blank with start - HELP PLEASE?!

I believe all "Battery Tender" brand units are maintainers. Battery tender tends to be used as a generic reference to any small charger/maintainer. There are several brands such as NAPA, Schumacher, Die Hard, and others who offer a charger/maintainer. Just make sure the unit is clearly marked as...
