• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Anyone installed a Sirius XM radio receiver on their RT? Any hints?

Has anyone installed a Sirius XM receiver/player on their Spyder RT? I would like to install one on my S2S.

I have IHeart and SiriusXM apps on my Iphone. They blue tooth nicely to my 2022 S2S, with clear audio. When/where service is spotty, I have a trusty IPod in reserve :)

I also use the XM app on my phone along with Pandora and MP3 files. Bluetooth works great and was easy to set up! One account works everywhere I want it

As others have said, the app should work in most instances.

If you're wanting to use something that doesn't involve the phone, then something like the kit I have linked below should do the trick.
I have used a "portable" kit for years (10+) in various vehicles (currently in my '99 full-sized van), and it's always worked great.

I installed an XM receiver on my '20 RT. I connected the XM's audio out to the AUX IN plug and used the 5v power from the USB plug. I ran the antenna under the tupperware to the back and glued it to the right top (opposite the RT antenna). If it rains, I cover it with a ziplock baggy.

I use a Siriusxm stratus7 on my S2S. Mounted it on top of the glove box door and plugged it in in the glove box. Mounted the antenna on the dash under the windshield. Had to buy a USB cord to power it. They make one specially for xm receivers.

I put an Onyx EZ into the glove box of my '14 RT. I removed the OEM plug from the rear trunk and stripped it from the harness; I then ran the cable up the right side (under the tupperware) and drilled a hole in the right side of glovebox; mounted the plug; and made a sheet metal holder for the Onyx. I have pics of it in an Album here. I don't know how much room you have in your glovebox, so it may or may not fit. I can change stations on the fly if I have to. Good luck ...Mike 👍

I have used one of the portable units, I think Onyx is the name. Mine is mounted on a bracket from the windshield and I have a short antenna mounted to a small L bracket on back of the radio. It's connected with Aux cable to the bike. I have had this on no less than 3 bikes, probably as many cars, and it works great.

There are lots of places I ride where there is no cell signal.

It always pays to check the date on the very first post in any thread you are planning on replying to, and also check the dates on at least the last few posts too... ;)

A little thread archaeology never hurts, if it's adding helpful info &/or providing/asking for further info; but please, do be aware how old the thread you're resurrecting actually is, and try not to drag old threads up needlessly/just to boost your post count... :sneaky:

Many phones use satellite reception when they can no longer reach a cell tower. Check with your carrier to see if yours is one. I live and ride in the empty West, but find I am seldom out of reception coverage on my phone based Sirius XM. It is part of the app based Sirius from my truck subscription. It is reliable enough that I no longer use my Onyx unit.
To mount the Onyx, I used a ram ball on the back of the Onyx mount to a Ram ball on the Spyder handle bars. I powered it from the power wire for the analogue gas gauge that I no longer use so it would turn off with the key. Ran the sound wire under the plastic to the MS10 blluetooth adapter that I got from Sena thru motorcycledave.com and the antenna to the top of the top case. That worked great for several years, until SiriusXM came out with their app. Now I just use my phone.

I found an article on the Apple website that says iPhone 14 and newer can use satellites for communication in an emergency, but there's no mention of using satellites for navigation.

As Racoon did, I researched your claim. I did this because when I ride in upstate NY, I frequently lose cell reception, so no GPS, no XM radio, etc. My cell phone is rendered useless. I found that there are only 6 phones that switch to satellite signals (iPhones 14, 15, 16, 16W series, Google Pixel 9, Samsung Galaxy 25, and Motorola Defy2). Moreover, they are all limited to emergency texts (iPhones can share location too).

Since you are seldom out of reception coverage on your phone-based Sirius XM, you must have excellent cell coverage.

I am on Verizion. There are some places in Wyoming with no cell, but very few. Then I just take a break or use my down loads until back in coverage
