Question for experienced Spyder owners - New F3 vs Used?

My wife recently got her endorsement and is really excited to get a Spyder. She is thinking the F3 is the best fit for her. I have located a 2017 with about 6k miles locally for $13,000. I have also located a brand new 2025 F3 for a discounted $22,000. Both machines are similarly equipped. Any advice regarding going the used route versus the brand new is appreciated.

6K miles for a 2017 is hardly anything... provided it has a good service record. Look to make sure the brake fluid has been flushed regularly (ideally every couple of years). If not, check the master cylinder for corrosion. Fuel filter location is extremely poor on the F3's... right up under the fuel tank cover where there's not much ventilation and the fuel lines have to make some tight bends, so some stress-cracking is not uncommon. My advice... re-route the fuel lines to a nicer layout, and replace & re-locate the fuel filter to make it easier to replace next time. Check the tyres, as they are likely the original ones, & if so, should be replaced with decent car tyres (search this forum about that) as they'll be 9 years old. Otherwise, just check the overall condition & compare it to the new one.

The price for the 2017 sounds to me a bit high compared to newer models that I have seen for sale. There are some deals out there with some owners buying newer bikes and putting all sorts of extras on, then losing interest so they sell just to get rid of it.

I see nothing wrong with a used F3 if it has been properly maintained. $13,000 might be too high if it is a base model F3 or F3-S. If it is an F3-T or LTD I think $13,000 would be fair. I would encourage you to look at maintenance records if available and also have the oil, brake fluid, and coolant changed if they are the original. If the tires are original they should be replaced too. And go with auto tires. I have a 2020 F3 LTD and love it!!

I have the opposite opinion. If you can afford the new bike and it has all of the features you want, it has warranty. With the older bike, you won’t get that. And you don’t know how long it has been sitting aging all of the seals and other rubber parts that could be needing replacement. That is especially true if it hasn’t been ridden much. Just my two cents.

Since as of this writing, BRP has confirmed that they are not sending any Spyders and Canyons to the US market, I'd fully expect used bike prices to start climbing very soon.

I am of the belief to go with used and save the extra coin. The price you stated seems a little high. There are plenty of F3S spyders in the $10-11k range. Even saw a 2018 F3S with pretty good milage for $8k. Spyder and bike prices are as cheap as I have ever seen, but that could change with the tarriffs and bans that are going on. My wife wants to sell her 2016 F3L special series. But I keep telling her that the prices are too cheap and she might as well hold onto it.

I'll offer another reason to buy USED.
She is a new rider and has no experience yet. Most newbies need to learn what they like and dislike which doesn't take long. If you buy used, you can unload it for minimum loss and then buy the NEW dream bike.

Admittedly, there's no F3's For Sale in our 'For Sale by Owner' section at the moment, but the 2020+ RT's are much closer to the F3's in their riding position than the earlier versions, and there juuust might be something in there that takes her fancy?! Have you checked 'em out?!? (y)

Nothing wrong with used spyders. Save a lot of money. I would recommend that whatever you buy used is to have a good mechanic go over the whole thing and let you know what maintenance is needed and/or repairs required.
You will enjoy a good used bike just as much as a new one, but have money to add all the perks you want.
