• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What could cause a fan like noise when shifting into gear from N?

I agree with the air ride pump possibility. Though describing it as a 'Fan' doesn't seem to fit. It definitely sounds like a high speed pump. But I'd say the squeal is going to be the dreaded alternator issue.

Intermittent raw gas smell at start-up and goes away after a few minutes - Any thoughts on what to check next?

Regardless of year or model, the smell of raw gasoline needs to be addressed ASAP. While the 1330 is less susceptible compared to the 998 V-Twin, you still run the very real risk of burning your Spyder to the ground in a big hurry. The Tupperware captures those gasoline vapors within the very...

Am I being too cheap by Not changing the filters on a low milage oil change?

More like the kidneys. But we get your drift. The heart would be the oil pump.

    Conventional vs Reverse Trike Discussion

The answer depends on the person, because the brake system does what it claims to do. If you really need it and can afford it, the answer is 'Yes'. If you don't have to have it but will use it, the system does offer real advantages, so the answer is 'Probably'. If you just think you might want...

Is the Alternator shaft squeal just a nuisance, or is it damaging anything?

Running in sub-zero is not the same as starting an engine that is at sub-zero temps. It's only the oil temperature at startup that has bearing on the low number of the 2 in multi-viscosity oil. This is because once you start the engine, the engine heat will bring the oil temperature to...

Is the Alternator shaft squeal just a nuisance, or is it damaging anything?

You are absolutely correct! Not sure how I got those swapped because I know better. Thank you for setting this straight for me. I hate it when I make stupid mistakes.

Is the Alternator shaft squeal just a nuisance, or is it damaging anything?

Unless you are starting you Spyder in sub-zero temperatures, I recommend 10-40 MCF wet clutch oil. 10 is plenty thin enough and will be more resistant to shearing and viscosity loss.

Am I being too cheap by Not changing the filters on a low milage oil change?

Both filters should be changed with every recommended interval oil service on the 998. Original manual stated every other oil change for the HCM filter. But they started having hydualic shift valves fail, so they ammended that in later years.

Am I being too cheap by Not changing the filters on a low milage oil change?

You are correct in the extreme! Air cooled is definitely a game changer. Remember back when all motorcycles were air cooled? Wow! I'm really getting old! I see you have a BSA in your lineup. I had a 441 Victor. What a BEAST! I'm not sure what it was a victor over. But it sure was a...

Is the Alternator shaft squeal just a nuisance, or is it damaging anything?

XPS Full Synthetic uses a highly refined Group III mineral based oil. Similar to the Sinto that you are going to use. It certainly is a step up from the Synthetic Blend product, which I do not recommend for the Spyder/Ryker/Canyon. It's false savings, in my opinion. There is, of course, a...

Am I being too cheap by Not changing the filters on a low milage oil change?

I was trying to stay away from this one. Thank you, Bfromia. ;) My primary opinion has always been, 'It's your ride, do what you like.' However, in some cases this can mean job security for repair shops. Nor am I here to talk anyone into or out of their chosen approach. I try to stick to the...

Is the Alternator shaft squeal just a nuisance, or is it damaging anything?

Sinto uses highly refined Group III, mineral base oil. It is not a true synthetic and not the same thing as Amsoil, which is an engineered, Group IV or Group V base product. I hope it works for you, but if it does not, you still won't know if a true synthetic oil will give you the releaf that...

I think they are probably correct, you can still ride it. Have you tried the Amsoil fix?

300 miles in temps over 105 with low humidity ... dangerous

One thing that they don't account for is that back in 1895, temperature sensors were installed near cities in relatively undeveloped areas. Over the years, cities expanded, replacing trees and grass with concrete and asphalt. Average temperatures rose, but they were no longer representative of...

Is the Alternator shaft squeal just a nuisance, or is it damaging anything?

As with other strange responses, we are left to speculate. Here's my take, for what it is worth. The official 'Fix' has not had a very good track record. I don't have any numbers, but it seems that, many times, the repair doesn't last very long. The chirp returns and so does the customer. Now...

Alternator Shaft Squeal - not a Recall, not a Warranty Campaign, just a TST!

Is the 'Special Tool' on loan from BRP? Or do the dealerships keep it? I'm wondering if another dealership might have one that they could send. I'ts not something they use very often.

Are the OEM XPS front tires really directional, on '25 S2S?

I don't know that I've ever had anyone thank me for bad advice. But much appreciated anyway! Should be able to. I don't see why not. So, the manual says they are directional? It does not appear that they think so at the BRP factory. Very strange, but updates to the owner's manual have been...

Are the OEM XPS front tires really directional, on '25 S2S?

Well, it appears that I have spoken out of turn here. Should have kept my mouth shut. Those are not directional tires. I think the factory is mounting them the way they do so the blocks match as the inside blocks look to be larger than the outside blocks. So, please disregard what I said. My bad!

Are the OEM XPS front tires really directional, on '25 S2S?

I'm not that familiar with the XPS tires. I've seen them, but I did not memorize the tread pattern. Seemed to me that they were directional. I need to see the tread pattern.
