• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Downshifting vs Braking

I do a little of both. I typically touch the brake just enough to shave off a little speed before downshifting for two reasons. One is to light up the brake lights to indicate to anyone following me that I'm slowing down. Second is to save a little of the wear on the transmission and clutch...

Bugs !@#$@# What will get them off?!

A few years ago, I posed the same question on the North American Biker Rescue Facebook page. The overwhelming response was full strength peroxide and a micro-fiber cloth. I was skeptical so ran that solution by the senior scientist I was working for at the time in an analytical chemistry lab...

Love it or hate it - you be the judge

Useless & expensive farkle that could become a road hazard. Two thumbs down from me.

Anyone else a loner and not a group rider?

I find small towns and farmsteads to be quite interesting and make fine subjects for my passion of photography.

Any ingenious ways of hauling Fishing poles?

I have a collapsing telescoping rod that has 5 or six sections. (haven't used it in a while). It shrinks down to about 14'' & will easily fit in the frunk or trunk. To keep things simple, I put a Zebco 33 reel on it.

Anyone else a loner and not a group rider?

Except for the hiking and pub parts, I'm right there with you. My photography habits make it next to impossible for anyone else to enjoy riding with me. It's just as well though as I prefer not to change those habits. On my last long ride on my BMW R1100RT I took a novel along with me to read...

    HowTo: Remote Garage Door Opener

Nice job! If I'm ever down to one vehicle other than my car, I may do that. Right now I would have to buy too many extra openers. ;)

Do you like riding your Spyder during motorcycle rallies ??

I didn't vote either way because we have yet to take it to any kind of rally or poker run. Here in the TX Panhandle, the Harley culture is so strong, it's difficult to feel welcome at any gathering where they show up in large numbers. That has been especially true when I roll in on one of the...

Which is a better choice, directional tires or symmetrical tires?

Sure thing; if I live that long. :yikes:

Which is a better choice, directional tires or symmetrical tires?

I'm running the Hankooks -- Kenergy S Touring on the rear in 205/65 -- Ventus V4 ES on the front in 175/55 on our Spyder and couldn't be more satisfied. It puts plenty of rubber on the road IMHO as I have never gotten it to break loose on dry or wet roads and with the slightly wider front tires...

Your Weather News @ March Edition 2023

Rode the Spyder to the golf course to play 18 today in upper 60 temperatures. Played well, and getting ready for possible rain/snow mix tomorrow. Supposed to be low 60s Friday and Saturday then 75 on Sunday.

Looking for ideas to haul/trailer an RT and an HD?

If you feel that a longer trailer might be useful for other things, a 16' should serve the purpose. Just make sure you have the heaviest one in front of the trailer. That will likely be the Spyder at around 1100 pounds. Always keep in mind, trailer that is loaded heavier in the back (behind...

What should it cost to mount tires - this much??

I put new tires on last spring. Ordered them at Walmart and the purchase price included mounting and balancing if I did the R & R on the rims. Their machine wouldn't' work on balancing the rear tire, but it was not a problem as I was planning to use Ride-On sealant balancer anyway.

Need a better place to put Battery Tender lead - Ideas?

Have you found a method you like here? There have been a few pretty good (and easy) suggestions that took into account your aversion to opening the frunk. :spyder:

Need a better place to put Battery Tender lead - Ideas?

I'm not familiar with the '21 RT set-up but with our 2014RTL, if you leave the cover off the battery and get caught in a rainstorm or it is sitting out at a motel or anywhere for that matter and it rains, your frunk will fill up with water.

Need a better place to put Battery Tender lead - Ideas?

I put mine where you see the red circle in this picture. Only had to expose the battery at the front and pop the side panel out. That allowed me to run sufficient wiring through the open spaces and tie it up with zip ties in a few spots. It hardly shows until you bend down and look right...

Explain this please - How come the controls are pinned??

As much as I detest engineers, this one may make some sense. It could be they are pinned in order to prevent rotation that would put undue strain on electrical connections. just food for thought before you do something you might regret. I too, am not entirely happy with the stock bars but in...
