• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Reliability

The two H-D factory trikes don't come with warranties? :dontknow:

    How difficult to ride

Good advice above. As I understand it, the challenge in California is two-fold: 1. Since the Spyder doesn't require a motorcycle license, I'm unsure whether there are any dedicated "three wheel" classes offered in the state like there is in states that *do* require an M / M3 endorsement for...

Are highway pegs worth the expense?

Maybe on the RT... on my RS, the Rivco pegs are so wide they might as well come with a free Doctor's exam. nojoke

    First service charge?? $$

Oh sweet lord Bob, how I wish I had that here! Average $100 an hour labor (*all* bike dealers, not just Spyders)... adds up quick. :(

    CONSUMER REPORT

True, if you're just measuring cost-of-ownership and the PITA of a service schedule, which I'm sure CR includes. But I know that CR places a lot of emphasis on actual reliability, and when it comes to that, the 998 is about as reliable as they get. It's what "surrounds" the engine that can get...

    First service charge?? $$

Everybody pays different for labor-- some cities/states are far cheaper/luckier than others-- but that's about right.

    Corbin announces...

Although I think that BRP finally hit a home run with their seat choices on the F3, that Corbin definitely looks sharp!

    CONSUMER REPORT

To be technical about it, the 998 is a *rock*, as dead-reliable a bike engine that's ever been manufactured-- it's the other quirks with first-gen Spyders that come into play. I'm curious about the survey dates; knowing the likely lag time, I wonder if CR caught a whole slew of seriously peeved...

How to get my spyder back - Contacts at corporate?

    Wow. That's... that's crazy. nojoke

How to get my spyder back - Contacts at corporate?

Huh. No update for a week? :dontknow: Anyway, everybody is different, but like others have said, there's no way a dealer is holding my Spyder for three weeks without me picking it up and taking it to another dealer, let alone three-- or more-- months. And I say this as someone who HAS had...

Why isnt' the Spyder more popular!

My thoughts, repeated: -- Having had the RS for a year with the "sporty" position and then three years with the "standard" (footboard and risers) position, there is no question in my mind that the Spyder handles corners FAR better from a standard position than a sport position. It's not even...

Why isnt' the Spyder more popular!

As observed, I championed the honor of our gallant steed over there. I think the piece was fair, and made the astute observation (made here all the time) that the Spyder is fundamentally too expensive a product to make a mass-market penetration. When your cheapest model is ~$17K MSRP out the...

Yet another windshield thread for F3

Just to stomp a thread with my opinion: once Madstad finally puts out a windshield for the F3, *grab it*. I've used their bracket on my RS for three years now, as long as Madstad is an option I'll never buy another aftermarket shield. Infinite adjustment, great build quality, and even better...

    F3 Fuel Gauge and fill-ups

Do what I did with my RS-- I bought a plastic gas can and carried it with me on the bike, and rode the bike until I ran out of gas. That told me a in a jiffy how much mileage I can get. :doorag:

What is a Spyder. Bike or Motorcycle. Settle argument for me.

I've never once called it a roadster, and doubt I ever will, seeing as that's just objectively meaningless BRP marketing-speak for "Well, we have to call it something." I call it a motorcycle, a bike, or a trike, equally interchangeable. When chatting with those oh-so-pleasant riders who get...

Avoiding Road Hazards on 3 Wheels?

I too agree with hitting obstacles (if you have to hit one) with the rear tire. Plays havoc with your behind, but cheaper than an alignment. That said, I've also found that I can really relax the rear spring on my RS with negligible effect on my handling, i.e. my Spyder is very sensitive to...

People wanting to borrow the Spyder. What do you say

GF has borrowed it for PLP, but never ridden it out of my sight. Brother borrowed it once and rode it for about an hour, but he's been on bikes for 35+ years, so I didn't feel too scared. Heck, it's insured. :p

Do you think this is a scam?

Scam. In fact, it's the same scammer we all spotted a little while back-- same photos and everything, slightly different details.

Are highway pegs worth the expense?

Can't speak for the RT crowd, but I put a pair of RIVCO highway pegs on my RS, and I've used them maybe half-a-dozen times for a minute or two at a pop. I'm pretty average-- 5'10", with most of my height in my legs-- and they're too far wide for my legs, I feel like I'm getting an exam guys...

    Can you stall an SE6?

This has happened to me on my RS/SE, I believe I'm not the only one here at SL. Seems to happen fairly early in the bike's life, i.e. the examples I know of were all low-mileage bikes, seemed to stop after that. Certainly true in my case-- had the Spyder stall out under heavy braking to a stop...
