• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What have you done for Heated Gear Wiring, inc Location - '20+ RT's?

I just connected it to the battery with an in-line fuse into a Powerlet socket I mounted in the cockpit in front of the seat. On my 2014 RT I did the same thing, except I put in a relay so that it was only active when keyed. However, I never leave anything plugged in, so with my 2020 RTL I just...

You knew it had to come - there's a Chinese Spyder!

I got curious and dug into this new 3-wheeler a little. It's rather murky, but kind of interesting. In short. The engine is called the X-Wedge. It started life in the early 2000's as an S&S designed and built Harley aftermarket engine. The engine is a V-Twin Harley clone. The X-Wedge...

You knew it had to come - there's a Chinese Spyder!

KTM owns Husqvarna motorcycles. Not the larger Husqvarna Group. They have owned the brand since 2013. Before that they were owned by BMW for a short time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Husqvarna_Motorcycles KTM and Husky produces smaller bikes in India in a partnership with Bajaj. The 790...

998cc Did Bad fuel cause additional problems? Ideas?

It's normal to make a hard clunk going into gear, but it shouldn't continue to make noise once in 1st gear. You might want to check into that further. It might just be an adjustment, or something more serious......

Any Yokohama rear tire users? Which?

I used that tire and liked it just fine. It lasted about 23K miles. No degradation in performance noted as it wore. Over the course of owning 3 Spyders with about 150k miles total, that tire was near the top of the list of tires I've tried.

Any reason NOT to buy a 2012 RT Limited?

The 2013's had some issues, but the 2012 should be good given the understanding that it's the previous generation with the limitations of the older design. This website is a great resource for doing some minor modifications that make it better to live with.

Are there any safe & convenient ways to carry Reserve Fuel?

https://www.simplymotorcycle.com/motorcycle-gas-cans/ I have the 1-gallon Reda and I have no fear it will detonate. It's made like a tank. The Givi also looks interesting, but I'm not familiar with the product. Rotopax is pretty much the gold standard, but they're awkward to mount.

Review: Lamonster 2020+ RT Mirror Locks

Meh. The second worst motorcycle I've owned in terms of QC was a Honda. (The worst was a KTM.)

Anyone else got Poor brakes on their Spyder? Any fixes?

I agree with Navydad. If you compare it to a higher end motorcycle, they do feel somewhat wooden and vague. Very automotive like, but not mushy, like air in the lines. However, if you apply the brakes vigorously, then it becomes much sharper and stops the bike well.

Oil filler cap is VERY hard to get off and back on correctly - anyone else? Fixes?

Just a little dab of high temperature grease on the threads is more than adequate. Do not take a file to it! A small piece of emery paper could be in order, IF there is a burr. But, only in that case.

What Budget Comms Systems are available/do you like?

I've tried several different brands over the years, but I always come back to Sena. I have had several Sena units that had flaws out of the box, but Sena customer service was helpful and replaced the problem units with minimal fuss. Once the problems were sorted out, they worked very well.

Which do you like better; Toe shifters, or Heel-Toe shifters?

Toe shifter all the way. (Not counting thumb shifting)

2024 Spyder issues make me wonder if I should buy yet?

For me, I'm on my third Spyder as well with a cumulative 150K miles (approximately). So far, knock on wood, they've been extremely reliable and fairly well made. Can Am does cheap out of some things, but in my experience, those things don't adversely affect reliability.

Do Waterless Washes work, or scratch the paint? eg. Buglside, etc.

I also like Aero Cosmetics Wash Wax All. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002N3RQYA/?coliid=I3P32AZ7RUWVVP&colid=1123HWD9TA351&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it It was developed for airplanes and seems to work really well.

What is involved in removing console switch plug covers?

What he said. I pulled the blank cover off of my 2020 RTL and replaced it with a USB charging port. :2thumbs:

    I installed 16 inch wheels...

Engineers are part of a team that brings a product to market, but not the sole part. Part are artists and part are marketers, and so on. The size of the wheels MAY be done by engineers, but it also may be dictated by marketers or artists. We don't really know. What we do know is Can Am is...

1330cc Maintenance questions for a 2015 Spyder RT Limited

A couple of things. On my 2014RT, I changed the plugs at the recommended interval, and they were toast. There is no way it would have lasted until 40k miles. So, there is some variance in the spark plug's longevity. Since your bike is running rough, you may be in the same boat I was in. As...
