• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Poll on navigation preferences

I have been a fan of GPS since my first Delorme GPS serial port dongle attached to a laptop almost 30 years ago. I still miss the detail of the old Delorme topos, but really like the Google Maps overviews and linked lodging/restaurant info. Yes my Garmin can lead me astray but it also...

I just wanna buy ONE oil

I run the Rotella T-6 5w40 weight in the 1330 Spyders, a Kubota diesel tractor, and my smaller lawn tractor since they turn over better in winter. I keep Mobil 1 5-20 for the newer Subaru and Hyundai. Good thought though.

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

Diamonds or the TWI Tread Wear Indicator initials Yep, the Kendas and Kumhos have the Triangle symbol in line with the wear bars- on the Generals they use TWI symbols in line with the wear bars Same location just off the tread pattern around the sidewall

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

Ron, Thanks for your EBC pads and comments. Your tire is the one post I recall that shows even wear across the tread. What tire was that and what psi did you run to get that even of a wear. I have always had the center wear faster especially on the OEM Kendas, but also to a lesser...

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

I agree that both this tire and brake pads were past their useful life. I posted to make the point that one side may not tell the full story. When looking at the General Altimax their handy Tire Replacement Monitor is very handy to show when substantial wear has occurred. This is especially...

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

quote "Its showing a manufacturing defect where it was molded off set from the casing. IE the tread was deeper on one side than the other. We see this on Kenda tires all the time but its not normal for a top tier tire. " I agree JC that the molding was probably not concentric with the bead on...

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

Navydad, the wife got 22,500 on this Altimax, the same as her first one on this bike. I think overall weight and riding style has a little to do with it, as I have been getting 20-21,000 out of the Generals. I changed out my rear pads at 36,100 miles and Lamonster garage just changed...

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

Thanks for the suggestion to use the thin cut bit for a flat groove on the pads. You are correct Mike that they are the OEM pads and I have the EBCs from BajaRon ready to put on. My wife got 57,000 out of her OEM pads - I guess she doesn't use the brakes much:sour: Ive cleaned up the...

Is this General Altimax ready for replacement

I have been watching this rear tire and now that the snow is forecast for today, I am cleaning things up and doing some "winter" maintenance. Here is a pic of the tire next to a new one I've had at the ready... What do you think? Also a picture of the rear brake pads while they're off...

Anyone done an Oil change thru oil filler tube?

Why not? I might not wash my bike as often as the next person, but if they have the time and resources to do a 60% oil change more often then its their choice so go for it. I didn't do a complete detail last time I washed my bike... I'll try to do a complete job next time.

Ignorant questions about jacking up the RT

I prefer to run the front wheels up on the ramps, and since the driveway outside the garage slopes away, the bike is close to level when I position it about 2/3 way up the ramps. It leaves enough room to get the drain pan under and still is quite stable to wrench the plugs and inspect...

    Checking oil

The recommendation on Page 125 in the manual says ride 9 miles, and and let idle 10 minutes, check within 2 minutes and gives Reliable oil level for your 1330 engine. I've tried other ways and the oil always varies...... this way has always worked with no surprises, 5 years and 3 1330's...

    Rear tire. yes another thread

TexO, we ran Kumhos on the 2011 RT and later RTs and kept close to the 28 psi, but have since reduced pressure slightly-- they still roll & wear good and even for the most part. Now we're running General Altimaxs on the F3T and 15 RT at 24 and 25 psi and happy as long as we keep 40 psi...

2019 limited rt no stable ride on interstate.

We left the motel in Pratt, KS on our way home last Friday and the wind was out of the South at 10-20 mph; two hours later in Garden City, KS it was out of the N at about the same speed. Thankfully I got another alignment at Lamonster Garage Thursday morning (55,000 miles on the 15 RT) and...

2019 limited rt no stable ride on interstate.

There is always going to be some buffeting from the big rigs, especially when there is a strong crosswind. Had two days of it on our last trip to Arkansas. Strong crosswinds and close proximity to the semis in the opposing lane (two lane highways) are the worst in my opinion. If there...

    My Altimax experience.

I felt that little grip/wiggle too when they were new Rapid Spyder- I too felt that grip/wiggle when I first put the General on my RT. I wasnt sure if if it was a little bit of the new tire mold release acting up or just how they grip. Either they wore in or I got used to it after a...

    Rear tire. yes another thread

Pick either the Kumho, Altimax, or the others mentioned and you will be happy. We have run Kumhos on our RTs and had good life and roll in the hotter SW temps, and any of the "stickier" tires will wear faster than the Kumho. We got 24-25,000 happy miles out of the Kumhos and on our...

How to gear up to ride comfortably and safely in really hot weather?

An excellent article on principles of heat transfer and numerical values for heat transferred. Thanks Falcon.. How that heat affects us depends on our age, physical fitness/circulation etc. I know I can't work or ride in heat like I used to, and my wifes 110 lbs is more quickly heated up...

    Oil extractor???

The extractor is another tool that can assist around the garage to help with oil changes, I use one to start removing oil while I get under and start pulling the 2 plugs on my 1330 engine. It makes it easier to drain the other half of the dirty oil into a smaller pan slid under the bike...
