• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Vredestein Quatrac 5 news

I liked the Q5 tread pattern up front because of the asymmetric design that pushed standing water to the outside. Seemed less of a benefit on the rear. The Q is symmetric and pushes the water to both sides - better for the rear IMHO. Either tire is an excellent choice for the Spyder.

Kind of an expensive day - 28k service

Motorcycle dealerships are regularly closing down because they aren't making profits. Floor planning of new machines and spare parts costs are a big drain on small businesses. I'd rather have to wait a bit for a part than not have a local dealer if/when I need one.

2021 RT Base rear Air Shock Losing air -anyone else?

I run at 50lbs to start a ride. From weekend to weekend, I usually need to add as much as 8 lbs but usually less than 4. I guess it leaks a little but not enough to let the dealer hold it hostage.

Do you own another motorcycle besides your Spyder?

I run an Aprilia Mana 850 for the summer day-trips <300 mi. It's narrow and relatively light with the gas tank under the seat with low COG. For multi-day and cold weather, the RT rules.

Anyone here ever need Garmin service? Cost? Any experiences?

Garmin has good support. I had a 590 that died and they replaced it with a 595 refurb. I discovered a bug in their 595 routing engine that I could duplicate and sent them a dump. They had an update with the fix 3 days later.

How about heated gear - what's your favorite? Any other suggestions?

I found Tourmaster 12v products to be the most reliable heated gear. https://www.revzilla.com/tour-master-heated-gear I ride year-round and had 2 pairs of gloves (hot spots) and 1 jacket (wiring) from Gerbing that went bad within 1 year of ownership. The Tourmaster gear has been good for 5+...

Planning a RT 66 trip next year

Avoid summer because of the desert and avoid winter because of the snow. That said, I've made the run from NJ as far as Grant, NM and was turned back by 2 huge snow storms heading from Grand Canyon and Cali - June 6th 2019. We woke the day before in the Rockies (Fairplay, Co) to the start of a...

Do Oil Filters deteriorate over time? OK to use after 2-4 years of storage?

:agree: The filter you buy on line or at a store could be just as old. I've never heard of canister filters aging out.

Venting about Tire wear and alignment...

We all ride differently and the stresses we put on the piece-parts vary widely. If a rider is happy with the equipment and doesn't push the limits, there's little reason to spend money for upgrades that have no noticeable benefits. Run what you like and respect the choices of others. There's a...

Looking for a quick release strap for a modular helmet - any ideas?

I already had the US model of the HJC C90 with D-rings that fits my noggin and my other lids all have quick release (QR). I wanted the lighter C90 Carbon model but only the EU model uses the QR. I ordered the lid from Netherlands and got the QR and saved over $100 in the process.

I put my Spyder to bed today, for A Long Winter's Sleep!

Looking for a quick release strap for a modular helmet - any ideas?

For one, the HJC C90 modular. The USA version in Carbon Fiber comes with D rings but the Europe version has quick-release. AND the US lid is over $100 more.
