• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Garage door opener

Quick project. Bought a momentary press 19mm button from amazon, removed the pins I didn't need (only left common and normally open) and wired it to a cheap garage door remote. Switch: Untitled by Uncle Grr!, on Flickr Wires soldered to button pads Untitled by Uncle Grr!, on Flickr Tessa...

    Garage door opener built in

Nice, but having to stop, take out the phone, take off a glove, open the app and open the door is still more trouble than just pressing the button. If you’re someone who rides with the phone on the handlebars and touchscreen capable gloves it seems ideal though.

    Garage door opener built in

Good idea. I was wondering what I could use for a connector but didn’t have anything on hand that’d fit. Not worth doing on the ryker since the whole panel comes off so easily and I can't come up with a reason I'd need to separate the button from the remote that wouldn't involve soldering anyway.

    Garage door opener built in

I'm normally posting on the F3 forum but my wife has a Ryker that I did this to so I figured I'd pop in. I find it annoying to have to hop off the bike to open the garage door, so I addressed that problem. I used a spare waterproof stainless button from a pack I bought a while ago for a...

    Passenger backrest/rack, differently

So as an update I removed the rack the other day and it annoyed me that I had to remove two screws to do so. So I modified the mount in such a way that all I have to do is loosen two screws and it comes off. I used one screw as the pivot point and the other as the lock. I cut slots in the...

Brighter taillights, or Why is this so difficult?

Nice setup! If that's how bright the single one was under tape I'll definitely add that to the list of things to try. Oh yeah, as for wiring them into the brake light. If I have just one I'll have to run power from both sides to it through diodes. Don't think they'll work for my main purpose...

Brighter taillights, or Why is this so difficult?

I agree it was extreme, but I never test to minimum. I've been at stoplights for 10 minutes, I've been in stop and go traffic for a long time, and I've been in an hours long traffic jam before. I figure test to at least 200% of expected use for everything. Hence why I built my trunk mount to...

Brighter taillights, or Why is this so difficult?

Well amazon sent the wrong part so the further experiments have to wait. Edit: But in the interest of experimenting, I bought a set of $8 taillight bulbs that don't have any particular advertising or claim to fame, but seem to use good chips. The other pair are about $20, but have a lot of...

Brighter taillights, or Why is this so difficult?

The way I read it explained, imagine wearing sunglasses. Then put on another pair of sunglasses. No matter what you do it's gonna get dimmer. Might be a different color, but dimmer nonetheless. But like I said, try it and let us know.

Brighter taillights, or Why is this so difficult?

It's not recommended to put red halogens behind red lenses. Red LED emits only red, so it doesn't waste any on the other colors that then get filtered out by the red lens. Putting in a red halogen, the red tint on the bulb will filter out everything but red then the lenses do the same thing...

Brighter taillights, or Why is this so difficult?

Thanks! I try, but I’m a total hack compared to one of my sons. I told him what I was trying and what I had, and he pretty much called me an idiot. Then he had the nerve to prove it, with math and everything. He is lots smarter than me though so no hard feelings. So I’m a verified idiot...

Brighter taillights, or Why is this so difficult?

Brighter taillights, or Why Is This So Difficult? Let me start off by saying this is the first mod I've done to the bike that the end result isn't really worth the effort put into it. So take it for what it's worth. Also this post will go through at least three iterations before I figured out...

    GPS Lock, differently

Thank you sir! BTW, when I say finished I mean I'm going to make another aluminum one just because it's fun and I just bought 25lb of aluminum off ebay for small money so I have a lot to work with...

    GPS Lock, differently

Probably a final update unless something weird happens. I got the security screws in and installed them, as well as adding another pivot hole in the bracket to move the GPS slightly higher. First pic shows the screw as received (right) and as I turned it down (left) so there's no place to grab...

    GPS Lock, differently

That's what I used to do also. Now I just walk away. Thanks! It's fun to solve problems, even if the problems are only in your head. I know that unless the dirtbag has not just tools but specialized tools, they're not getting the GPS. With the unit in the cradle you can't access the bolts...

I don't know about gouging but the trailer hitch is held on only by the same axle they'd have to remove to get the wheel off...

    GPS Lock, differently

In the interests of furthering this evolution and simplifying the design (mostly because I have the same kind of GPS on another of my bikes) I decided to see if I could make it more universal, simple, and not involve welding. So I grabbed random chunk of steel, a bit less than 1/8" thick and...

    GPS Lock, differently

Ok, so vaguely in order. I mostly agree with the cheap GPS thing. However, I bought a zumo 550 when they were new and very expensive. Very. That GPS has been on nearly every bike (20+) since then, still works fine, and prorated cost me maybe $60 a year. So I'm not against buying good...

    GPS Lock, differently

In my recent GPS mount threads, the issue of security came up. The Zumo 396LMS I use doesn't have any, and I've not seen any commercially available locks for it. Oh well, let's get to making something. So the 396 has a button on the bottom you press which slides out a piece on the right...

    Headlight/aux light upgrade, differently.

That’s a valid point. I haven’t gotten to there yet, but I will be adding some dazzle to the front for left turner avoidance. I just haven’t decided exactly what yet. My buddy came over for (awesome) steak the other day and we did a direct comparison of his lights vs mine. No question mine are...
