• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Saddle bag won't open

Pushing in? When mine is cantankerous, I hold the release lever all the way out while giving the side of the bag a sharp rap with the palm & heel of my other hand, all the way up high where the latches are. Then, when finally open, lubricate the latches.

    Seen Everything - Electric HD!

Back in the '60s when full-size new cars were still around $3,500, someone developed an electric car that went from New York to LA on only $35 worth of electricity. But the extension cord cost over $10,000!

    Spyders on The Simpsons

I have a bumper sticker that says POLITICALLY INCORRECT and PROUD OF IT Now I need another one that says OLD WEIRDO and PROUD OF IT

2 Seasons, 4200 miles, and a Green Check Mark!

Yup, the car manuals have said that for years. Now I'm no oil expert, but here's what my simple cowboy logic leads me to believe about that: those manuals are talking about OIL but we MC riders nowadays mostly use SYNTHETIC. Is it logical to apply the same old rules to BOTH of them?

(Was Looking to buy... ) Now Have bought this 2017 RTL - Well she's mine!

Rolled up 107K TODAY! And have averaged 38.4 mpg for the past 12,000 miles (13 months).

(Was Looking to buy... ) Now Have bought this 2017 RTL - Well she's mine!

My 2015 is now pushing 107,000 miles, and still performs just fine... I'd trust it on a long trip. You will have normal component failures from time to time, as with any man-made machine. As another said, the engine is bullet-proof. The oil-change interval is 9000+ miles, and mine doesn't use...

Newbie Mistake - don't forget the rear tire when straddling pot-holes!

I think there's about 16 inches of lateral clearance between the front & rear wheels... this would help to judge what you can clear (or not).

Do you think dealerships should offer some compensation/discounts ??

Why would it "not harm the dealers?" That warranty is just another product they sell with a markup for a profit. No business can operate without a profit. I voted NO.

What's this other code beyond the Tire age numbers?

What's this other code beyond the Tire age numbers?

Those other numbers: I seem to recall reading that it's the employee identification. A record of "who" actually built each tire is kept. For liability reasons.

    Leaving key in ignition

HA! Been there, done that: on my first ryde, with a Harley-owner friend, we stopped at a bakery and when we came out I couldn't restart. I didn't even have a phone with me, but my friend did, and we called a neighbor back home for help. I had forgotten you must step on the brake!

To kill or not to kill (switch), that is the question

I do that also, to let the music keep playing, and also to watch the fuel gauge rise... it tells me when to watch carefully for the splashback to stop pumping. (I don't engage the auto-shutoff in the pump handle.) As for the old battery-killing futile cranking, that doesn't apply to Spyders...

How to reduce the loud knock when you put it in first gear?

I tried twice and had no luck. I guess I'll just get myself a new business card: Have Clunk Will Travel

    998 MPG average ?

My 2012 RTL averaged 30.73 for the 32K miles I drove it. Lots of 2-up. Mike, Bruce said he had the SM5... wouldn't that do better than the slippy-slipping centrifugal clutch on the SE5? :dontknow:

What's a good, safe Cruising speed for 998 Spyders?

Just don't run too low on oil, and you'll never cruise that engine to death. Redline is 8500 to 9000 rpm! And I used to hear that people wanted to cruise it above 6000, which means staying in 4th gear until about 65mph. I didn't do that, but it won't hurt that engine! The thing to remember is...

What are your Thoughts on a 2015 RT? Anything to look for/watch?

I've been very pleased with my 2015 and it now has over 105,000 miles on it! I had a number of warranty repairs over those miles. But it's a very reliable machine, that I'm not afraid to depend on all the time. I have no idea what a good price would be, though.

Service Bulletin - RT/F3 Park Brake No Release - Anyone Know the Fix it addresses?

When mine failed, the motor was OK. It was the electronic module that controls the motor (AND the windshield lift motor) that failed, and had to be replaced. It happened under warranty, so I don't know the cost. But the techie said he thought the module itself was over $600. Plus the labor.

    Spyder by Drone (video)

Hey, thanks for taking the trouble to find that thread again for all of us! I enjoyed reading all of it again. I also didn't recall the "Hyperframe Mode" video presented there, and watched it also for the very first time of seeing something like that. Wow! It was like a Disneyland attraction...

    Spyder by Drone (video)

About 3.5 years ago a fellow on here posted this link to a beautiful YouTube video of his ryde in the Autumn Virginia countryside. Here it is again for any newbies who would enjoy it. I don't remember who the original poster was, but perhaps he'll chime in here with more information. Enjoy...
