• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How do you dress for a ride?

Similar to askitee I worked EMS for many years in the Colorado mountains along I-70 and the resort areas. I understand the personal decisions and I don't tell others how to make theirs nor can I understand other's perception or toleration of risk. But when you see the victim, family and friends...

How do you dress for a ride?

I dress in anticipation of a crash. Full gear plus a Alpinestar TechAir 5 vest. On a recent trip a deer took off my right hand mirror and bent the throttle bar. Lucky to have been on 3 wheels. The only consolation I made was heavy cotton work pants instead of my moto pants in lieu of the heat in...

    Was I penny wise foolish?

Unless you’re going to have a regular passenger you don’t need the L. Just finished a 2300 mi trip with my RT and love it. Plenty of luggage space. Like the looks better also. I think you made the right choice. Happy Happy

Elka shocks - how's the ride with Stage 2 shocks?

Lamonster installed the Elka stage 2 on my '21 RT at about 1,000 miles. I could tell a softer ride on my 1/2 mile of bumpy gravel road right away. They advised against the stiffer sway bar saying the shocks may perform better w/o the stiffer bar. I just finished a 2,300 mile trip across KS, CO...

Sway bar - is this upgrade worth it?

From what I read here it can be worth it but improvement may also depend on year of RT as some reports on '20-21 models show minimum improvement with sway bar. I was going to add one to my '21 RT and Lamonster garage convinced me I would get more improvement from the Elka shocks. I was ready to...

    Price per mile/km

I enjoy figuring different data points as well. Anything less than .50-60 per mile on my RAM is all gravy so gas expense for the Spyder is a non issue. I keep track of my mileage as least initially for safety sake on long trips. I like using Gaia app on my phone as for any given trip it gives me...

Will Upper Air deflectors increase airflow to Rider?

Yes they are worth it. I had the dealer install when I purchased the '21 RT on the advice of others here. Just as RayBJ said. Took me awhile to realize how they pivot but its pretty intuitive if you look at the airflow change from one position to another.

    Shocks versus sway bar

I should have added hard cornering to my list, no lean that I can tell. One thing Lamonster said was that a heavier sway bar may in fact impede the full advantage of the Elkas. I'm thinking this may be more true for the '20-21s as some say the bar is not that noticeable an improvement on those...

    Shocks versus sway bar

I did Q5s and front Elkas on my '21 RT. The other day I tried some serious side to side maneuvers at about 40 mph as if I was doing a tight cone course or doing obstacle evasion and I can't imagine a tighter machine. Like it was on rails, impressive. The nanny never spoke nor did a front tire...

    Tire Pressure

    Nice to know, thanks.

    Tire Pressure

Only have 3,000 on the rear OEM. Since my dealer won't install anything else, perhaps even Lamonster, I will wait to see the opinions on the K9s and probably go with that for the rear when the time comes.

    Tire Pressure

    Ok that makes sense.

    Tire Pressure

The manual for the RT calls for 28 rear. What is your experience with 18-19 rear? That is 10 lbs less. They recommend 20 on the fronts and I can understand the lower pressure there. I've been running 18 fronts but may go to the 15-17 you recommend. I have OEM rear tire and Q5s on the front. Just...

Why don't techs like car tires?

Thanks Flamewinger, you are correct. I told the tech "many riders" with a lot of experience were using car tires. I haven't heard of any cord separations on any of the car tires, not sure about the Kendas. People here would know.

Why don't techs like car tires?

An excellent point. An ingrained reflex by those who don't ride them and have a management/mfg canned response. Another case where the customer has later information than the dealer/tech, just like not knowing about the new front pulley or the idler, at least until the evidence is overwhelming...

Is Miles to empty shown on 2020 RTL?

Sounds like your dashes coincide with the low gas warning light at about 165 miles. In either case it's gas time and knowing the location of the next town.

Why don't techs like car tires?

Twice in the last month a tech has indicated to me that the Q5s being car tires should not be on my '21 RT. One at Lamonster said only a unidirectional motorcycle tire should be on there. He said the car tires won't show wear and you'll keep them past useful life, etc. huh? The service manager...

    Shocks versus sway bar

They told me the same thing and so far I'm quite happy with my '21 RT with the Elkas.I think it helps for posters to say what year/model machine they have so we can better determine the benefits of any of these upgrades. They convinced me on the Elkas even though more money and also reading the...

Is Miles to empty shown on 2020 RTL?

Have you experimented with this to see how accurate it is? Nice to know, I still use the fuel warning light to start planning my next gas stop, or before.

Is Miles to empty shown on 2020 RTL?

Don't have that on my '21 RT. I just kept track of gallons used and miles driven the first 2500 miles and its coming out around 32 mpg average. Take that X 7 gl tank and you get about 220 miles. I use 6.75 gl and that is closer to 210. I figure I need to have a gas station in sight around 200...
