• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Rear shock info

Taller is the more stout spring Shorter is the solo rate spring Understand the desire to go with 1 spring, I did also. Your challenge will be to find a spring length to fit in the space you have. The OEM shock uses an odd length, the aftermarket spring makers make springs in specific...

    Rear shock info

The 2 spring setup works fine. I think BRP changed springs because they found they could get a single spring (but made to be a 2 rate spring) cheaper than staying with 2 springs and the spacer. I think you will find changing out the shorter (weaker) spring easier than replacing the 2 spring +...

    Rear shock info

David, You are about 15 lbs heavier than me, so I would look for a 900 lb/in spring. So something from Eibach 0400.225.0900. But you need to measure the length of the shorter spring in there now to know what length to order. Do you have the means to compress the springs so they can be...

    Rear shock info

David - what do you weigh? That determines the rate of the shorter spring. BTW, the pic I posted is of a 2008 GS model, so I'm guessing yours is the same.

    Rear shock info

A pic of the shock (hopefully it comes through). There are 2 springs. The short one is the lower rate spring, the longer spring is the more stout spring. You could replace both springs and the spacer in between or you can replace the shorter spring. I don't know the length of the shorter...

    Rear shock info

David, You did not indicate what you weigh. Your best least expense route will be to replace the spring with straight rate spring strong enough to handle 2 up duties but not too harsh for solo riding. This would assume the damping is still sufficient in the oem shock. How many miles are on...

    2014 RSS Rear Shock dimensions

Babr, Lower spring rate = 405 lb/in Upper spring rate = 810 lbs/in Cross over point happens at 705 lb loading (@ 1.74") Are you keeping the Fox shocks on the front? If so, the spring rates on these are 181 lbs/in. I found them a bit weak and switched to 225 lb/in.

If the shock length can be made longer than 13.5", say 13.75" to as much as 14" look into this possibility. I did some measurements to check swingarm movement to shock compression and found out how little clearance there is between the tire and underbody panel when the shock fully compresses...

    not for the meek

A suggestion while it is apart. While you have it apart, I would suggest you wrap the exhaust to keep the heat in check. Most have used the standard exhaust wrap but I found the 1" or 2" thick ceramic blanket material to be superior in heat insulation. It can take 2,300 degrees F all day no...

Spyder RT verses Goldwing.. We're confused

I see you are getting a few comments, I'll add a few new ones. My first thought since you are riding 2 up is that your suspension springs are not up to the task. I have owned a 12 RTS and a 13 STL and have to add stiffer springs front and rear for both bikes. When the suspension springs are...

Motorcycle Industry In Trouble says Give A Shift Group

The article references an older report, but has real teeth in the bottom line message. You even see this from Can Am from the rumint...

First of many (probably) ST maintenance videos.

Do not get the special GIVI tool to remove the side bag frames from the bike. If you get a very wide flat blade screwdriver, this will work. Just make sure you push in as you turn (CCW I think to remove) and the bolt head will turn and come free from the bike. You need a at least 6" blade to...
