• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Steering... whaaat?

Man that's tough luck, I'm pleased your ok though. It does sound extreme so it's very difficult to determine what might have happened. Coming from a motorbike your brain will automatically countersteer which is the exact opposite of what is needed for a Spyder. For most bike rider folk it feels...

    Using ramps for oil changes

Hehe. Some of us are just cleverer than others... ;) The rear suspension is a 2nd class lever system, very like a plier type nut cracker in operation. The rear bike load is applied to the end of the lever (the swing arm at the wheel), the pivot is at the front of the swing arm and the...

Garmin 595 Install on 2016 RT

I gave you all the information you requested plus a wee jest and you get angry! Perhaps you were having a bad day.

    Using ramps for oil changes

How can this possibly be the case, the mechanical advantage the rear wheel has over the shock is greater than the bike's rear weight, isn't it?

    Using ramps for oil changes

Aha, I see, this is only when you mechanically lift the bike and place three ramps. I thought there might be some obscure reason for reversing up the front ramps. Thanks for the clarification.

    Using ramps for oil changes

Erm, why is that the case?

Garmin 595 Install on 2016 RT

https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/zumo595/EN-US/GUID-FA5CD7BB-A00F-41EF-B608-90E3ADA0760C.html One audio is out from the 595 to your bike - 3.5mm jack at right rear of tank. The other 595 connector is audio in to the 595. The connectors are normally labelled on there side. Put your specs...

Just bought my 1st Can Am......have questions

I have the comfort seat on my RT. It does move you back about 50mm (2" in old money). At first I was slightly disappointed it didn't feel much adjustment but now when I ride a normal seat it feels seriously close and cramped. It does very much increase your reach to the bars though so if your...

    Using ramps for oil changes

I use ramps without any problem. All the oil appears to drain correctly.

    Brake question

Your discs are a little unusual since the whole of the inside surface has rust on the rubbed area. Two questions; 1, are you using non-standard brake pads, and 2, do you wash your bike and then leave it with wet brake parts. I notice, also, corrosion on the wheel clamp surface and light rust...

Erm, what is the issue with pushing the pedal completely down?

Performance Exhaust and Intake with Dyno Runs

The torque curves were very impressive, a marked gain throughout the whole range and particularly good through the lower and mid range. It's a pity about the noise level though. As usual, you don't get anything for nothing - always a compromise. Unfortunately.

    dash gauge hole covers

The digital gauge gives you a safe 20 miles per bar, much more convenient than guessing a needle position. For info, you only need to disconnect the left gauge to get the digital ones to pop up. The analogue gauge connectors carry ignition switched positive and negative cables, very handy for...

    Stiffer sway bar

Yeh, an ok article but a bit simplistic. The reference to body roll increasing camber as though that is a fixed truth is misleading. There are various suspension designs which produce different camber variations, indeed, it's possible to design a suspension where body roll reduces positive...

    Stiffer sway bar

I agree with your last paragraph but otherwise we'll need to disagree on this one...the anti-roll bar is just that, it prevents body roll but there's always a compromise and that compromise causes a change in the total spring rate on each side of the vehicle and the tyre on the outside of a...

    Stiffer sway bar

In the car world it was common to add a second bar to the first one. The second bar is to be the same shape as the original one and clamped to the end lever sections. You can't just use any old piece of steel, you need spring steel. If the second bar proves to be too stiff you can grind down the...

    Spyder RT question

I've had both, a 2010 and a 2017 both RTs. I don't recognise many of the comments others have posted. I preferred the V twin. The front suspension was more precise rather than the squidgey rubber of the 1330. The fuel consumption up to 50mph was pretty much the same, at 70 the V twin took about...

    Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

Yep, BRP is hopeless. We've got two 2017 bikes and they stipulate different capacities. I go for 5lts for a change including the filter. That's four oil changes from a 20lt drum... easy peasy. On the viscosity thing, viscosity is not the most important feature of an engine oil, as witnessed by...

engine surges in 1st or rev on start up

2014 RT Limited Left Front Brake Caliper Leaking.

I think he is correct, that is common practise, sometimes it's a round section O-ring and sometimes a square section O-ring. Extremely unlikely to leak unless there was contamination at the build time. Mind you, I'd say that about the main seal too. Just for completeness, a main seal fault I've...
