• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

Oh yeh, thanks, I got crossed up, I meant approx 11% fewer miles for the Mobil 1. I'll go back and rectify that so it makes sense.

    Salty Roads

The salt will get everywhere. Even on a dry day the salt dust will get everywhere just like normal road dust does. Salt is hygroscopic so if you don't get every trace off (impossible) it will become damp and active. All the fasteners will lose their plating as will the brake rods and levers, the...

    Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

Why do you feel Amsol is superior? Given that the Mobil 1 was used for approximately 11% fewer* miles but the oil contained about 30% less iron, given that the bores, piston rings, camshaft, gears and crankshaft are all iron based, I'd say your engine is wearing out faster using Amsoil.

2014 RT Limited Left Front Brake Caliper Leaking.

This is where you have to be severely logical with yourself... there must be a fault you missed, perhaps a scratch on the piston, a nick in the seal, a bit of debris or even a hair line crack. Square section seals can be purchased and square section O-ring cord can also be purchased so you can...

2014 RT Limited Left Front Brake Caliper Leaking.

It's uncommon to have a brake piston seal fail at such a low mileage, I'd be tempted to dismantle the caliper and check the seal for a little debris or contamination and check the piston for a longitudinal scratch. Be sure to remove the seal from its groove (carefully!) and check the groove for...

Its rear brake pad replacement time again

I'm going to dodge the pseudo science and give you a little practical advice and info. As you obviously know, your rear caliper has only one piston. At a brake application the rubber seal in the caliper is slightly deformed forward as the piston moves outward under pressure. When the pressure...

Wrong Spyder model associated with VIN number

Weird, it's similar here too. We give the insurance company all the details, they accept them but when the insurance documents arrive the engine size is always 998. We phone them, they say, "That's strange but don't worry because we know that 2017 Spyders are 1330." They record everything so...

    Tool kit location???

Hehe, erm, how is emptying the trunk of all your luggage more convenient and quicker than lifting the seat? :dontknow: ;)

    Rear wheel balancing?

Q1, yes the rear tyre can be balanced and should be. Q2, dunno, never used one but the principle ensures, at best, it's a compromise balance because it's an offset to the tyre centre line, so in no way is it a dynamic balance. Can you mount two, one each side? Q3, dunno, I do my own. Try a car...

    Tool kit location???

It was fitted into a recess in the underside of the seat on the older bikes but there is no longer a recess in the 1330RT seat. However, if you fold it up neatly it will nestle nicely at the side of the brake fluid reservoir under the seat.

    Laser Schmaser ?

Hehe..I think you're off on a tangent! Pun intended! Consider the force required to rotate the tyre contact patch to a new position for steering to take place. Happy new year!

    Laser Schmaser ?

I would have thought it would be the opposite. ;)

    Rear tire removal

Yep, I'm with you on that one. But my technique is slightly different, I nip up the axle tightening on the sprocket side, quite firm but not rigid tight. That little spanner tool I made, shown in the picture a few replies back, is on the silencer side and I give the end of it a couple of whacks...

    Rear tire removal

I think we're discussing tightening the axle nut. :banghead:

    Rear tire removal

Perhaps you missed this quote taken from the article you link to: "...it will not matter whether the bolt head or the nut is tightened. Some people believe that by tightening the bolt head rather than the nut it will affect the torsion in bolt shank. The torsion in the shank of the bolt depends...

    Rear tire removal

I understand your thinking but in the Spyder axle application it's not really valid. If one end of the axle were completely bone dry and the other end lubricated then there would be a difference in the friction at the axle head compared to the nut/washer interface which may be significant but if...

    Rear tire removal

Why? The forces are equal and opposite except for the tiny drag of the axle.

    Laser Schmaser ?

If the lasers are parallel to the ground, a target placed in front of and square to the vehicle alignment centre, can be marked at the laser dots. If the target is then moved by the required toe distance (wheel rim diameter for me) then the difference between the dot spacing on the target equals...

    Rear tire removal

You'll need both. One to tighten/slacken with and one to hold the opposite end of the axle with. I'm not sure why buying both is an issue for you but a deep socket is a cheap and common item at a motorfactors store. You could do this as shown below. Buy a deep socket and cut it in half then tack...
