• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Boots?

I wear Doc Martin's pull ups, they aren't specifically motorcycle boots but are sturdily made and have a reinforced ankle with padding. They are really comfortable and work fine with khakis.

Turning my RS into an RSS

Like Kratos said two tone paint and graphics. I, like you have a black 2012 RS, I also put on the Fox shocks (solid upgrade) but I stopped short of the seat because seats with exposed stitching that I've had in the past tended to get wet past the stitching if I got caught in heavy rain. The...

    Long Distance Riding

I've never done a 1,000 mile day, but I have done 750, (El Paso to Houston) on a 97 HD Road King. At mostly 70 mph on the I - 10, I don't think the Spyder would be significantly less tiring.

full face vs half vs beenie helmet

I save my righteous indignation for the $500 helmet and flip flops, sportbike crowd. Apparently they aspire to be a perfectly good head in a jar, ala Futurama.....Oh yeah and for the gun posts!

full face vs half vs beenie helmet

With my luck I'd suffocate on the bubble wrap. DOH!

Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City to offer safety course for three-wheelers

That's good news, once OK State has established the course, I'm sure other parties will follow. Hopefully it will become another routinely offered MSF course.

full face vs half vs beenie helmet

When I used to handle these type responses, I remember that if there were any serious injuries the media would note if the rider wasn't wearing a helmet (or an unapproved helmet) but not once did I ever read that the rider was properly attired. I remember once a guy on a stolen bike didn't make...

full face vs half vs beenie helmet

Bob, Think of the principle behind what you are saying. If I should wear a helmet because of how an injury would affect family and friends, then what business do I have riding in the first place. If proper compassion for loved ones is derived from diverting risk, then sitting carefully on the...

full face vs half vs beenie helmet

Sorry to take issue with you here Ron, but I too have spent most of my life in the fire service (including 6 years on the NOFD Rescue Squad) and frequently wear a half helmet and if I legally could still in LA, would occasionally wear no helmet on the Spyder. I won't beat to death the old helmet...

    REMINGTON GUN CO.

Oops, missed the post mentioning the Governor. That does put the ball over the wall, and is directly political, but none the less, if I see a topic I think may annoy me, then I read a different topic.

    REMINGTON GUN CO.

If someone finds a topic offensive, why will they go out of their way to read it? Wouldn't the fact that Remington is mentioned in the title alert those opposed to guns, that guns maybe mentioned in the post? What if a pic of a Pop-Tart bitten to the shape of a gun were posted, would that be...

    Ooooppppsss,, I did it again..

Actually black is by far the fastest, we black bike owners just wait until nightfall to really show off, and then of course you can't see us.

Does the brand of gas really matter?

I use non-ethanol,(luckily 2 of the 3 closest stations to me are non-ethanol) premium. I find the mileage on both my Spyder and my truck is better (while difference is not dramatic, it is consistent) with non-ethanol and the price for non-ethanol is exactly the same as the ethanol added station...

Planning first long ride: Interstate vs back roads

Wow, just checked your profile to see where you were leaving from and Shazam! It's Ponchatoula, LA! I didn't realize there was another SpyderLover in Ponchatoula. Anyway, when going to San Antonio, I'd recommend taking I-10 so that you'll have more time to enjoy the backroads around San Antonio...

    Sway Bay

How much time is the dealer charging you for labor? I was going to install mine, but haven't had time and asked my dealer what he would charge. He had no idea and said he'd get back to me. I'm hoping if I can give him the time required, we can move this along.

    Help locating US company

Good luck to you, hope it turns out well. I know what it is to have a vehicle you love, but are completely unable to enjoy. I had a very similar experience with Indian Motorcycle (back in their Gilroy, CA days, 2 owners ago) but I got flamed by the forum for complaining, as though I were somehow...

    Florida Keys bound!

Lucky B@$#*€d! Man, I love the Keys! Be sure to have breakfast at the little diner in front of the Big Pine Motel. It's a dive, but they serve a great breakfast. Also highly recommend Lorelei's in Islamorada, great food, great views, and friendly people, and finally the Seven Mile Grill...

New member just bought a new 2011 Spyder RS SM5

Welcome! The best tip I got as a newbie was to inflate the front tires to 19 psi and set the front shocks to 5 (highest setting), really improves handling. Also, the Fox shocks (standard on the RS-S) are another big improvement (Elkas also get rave reviews but are a tad pricey)...

Do's and Do Nots for passengers

I wouldn't fret a whole lot, riding the Spyder with passenger is minimally different from solo riding (at least as far as piloting). The differences you mentioned are far more pronounced on a 2-wheeler than on the Spyder.
