• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2012 RT SM5 - Will sway bar end links alone make any difference?

Yes, what Peter says! Do not put an upgraded sway bar on your ride using the OEM end links. You'll break them for sure. They typically break under heavy loading, such as in a high speed, tight turn. As Peter says, it can be a puckering experience, even if you don't hit the guardrail or go over...

Too hot to ride, or maybe I’m just getting old

Funny you should mention this. In the fire service, especially when your EMS is integrated like it was for us, you do 'Stand Backs' to support law enforcement in dangerous situations like an active shooter, gang fight, or barricaded suspect with a gun. That way you're right there, though at a...

Just When You Think You've Seen It All...

True, the VSS system applies the rear brake first and releases it last, which helps stabilize the Spyder when stopping. This was more pronounced in the early, Chinese braking system days. 2008-2012 models. With these, you can pretty much count on replacing the rear pad set twice for every front...

    Can anyone ID these rims?

Yes, these are early Spyder factory wheels. The 2008-2012 Spyders came with 14" fronts. I changed my 2008 GS front wheels to 15's as it gives me a much better tire selection, and they handle better. Any OEM 15" Spyder wheel will fit the early models. It's a worth while upgrade.

Anybody see a measurable change in fuel mileage with larger diameter rear tire?

Though I am definitely not a fan of the original and subsequent OEM Kendas. I have not had enough experience with the new XPS Kendas to have a reliable opinion. I am currently running a set of Kanines, which I am liking. We have seen a tendency for less miles than the car tires we carry, and the...

Too hot to ride, or maybe I’m just getting old

Not to hijack the thread. But when people start talking about how hot it is, my mind always goes back to my professional days. The reason Nomex is 'Fire Resistant’ is partially based upon the fact that it does not breathe. You get zero air circulation. I'm not sure you can have both. And yes...

RTL - brake pad replacement intervals. Just replaced my pads at 21,000 miles. Is this a fair mileage?

I agree! But do it safely. Find a quiet, straight stretch of roadway and do a few practice stops. Start with caution and work up to a full on panic stop in a few increments. It's good to know what you are going to get before you need it. It's a skill that will pay off in the long run.

RTL - brake pad replacement intervals. Just replaced my pads at 21,000 miles. Is this a fair mileage?

We recently had a customer who found occasion for her first panic stop. She said hitting the windshield hard was the only reason she was able to stay on her Spyder. If you do slam on the brakes, it's important to be ready for the results.

Having a blast, but have you noticed these Spyders Take an Effort To Ride?!

There are a few reasons why the Spyder can be a workout in the twisties. The platform definitely has something to do with it. But there are others. One is that we tend to go into a death grip posture on a windy road. It's not necessary and will not improve your cornering. Be mindful of this and...

Too hot to ride, or maybe I’m just getting old

For a career, I climbed mountains and fought wildland fires in triple digit heat while wearing a Nomex suit which does not breathe. Now that's HOT! We sucked in plenty of smoke while doing so as well. It only burns your eyes and throat until you get used to it. We would cough up black stuff for...

A post from Lamont on FB...

There is so much that could and should be said. But my mind goes to this song from long ago. No one is in any position to judge here. Only to show appreciation, and care for an irreplaceable, forever friend and brother.

    Tennessee Trip - I'm off to BajaRon's!!

We are a small, 'Hole in the Wall' shop in a small town. But we have a lot more fun than people realize! We've got the greatest customers anyone could have. I consider them all 'Friends', though I admit that I have trouble remembering all the names. I'm better at faces!

What is the 'ideal' Ride Height? Should the front shocks be biased toward more clearance or less?

4" is what I suggest. However, your Spyder will settle differently every time. +or- 1/4" is pretty common. So, you won't get the same measurement every time no matter what you do. And it isn't that critical as long as you are in the ballpark while typically loaded (passenger/s and gear). I do...

A Request Passed On To All - Add your Spyder/Ryker Year/model to your Sig Line!

I've always wondered why this otherwise seemingly static message keeps popping to the top of the ‘What’s New’ list. Curiosity got the best of me today and so I looked. Now I see why! It's Little Blue perpetrating the reoccurrences. No, I have not complied with the request. Since I have a shop...

Is my Battery failing? Or not?

I would go with a 2 amp for maintaing the battery, though other amperages will work if it has a float function.

Is my Battery failing? Or not?

I understand. Not on my hobby horse with this one like I am with the belt dampeners. Using lazy termenology and being inconsistant seems to be present in most of us. But we all have our Red Lines in the Sand, I suppose. I'm not so much concerened for what people call these chargers. As long as...

Is my Battery failing? Or not?

So, now we need to talk about the difference between a tender (trickle charger) which can overcharge (which can cause the sulfur buildup I mentioned above) and do damage when used constantly (as described by canamjhb), and a float charger which monitors the batteries charge and compensates down...

Is my Battery failing? Or not?

Well, I will answer. But there are much smarter people here than I. Does your battery tender have a desulfonate process? Sometimes, especially when the operational charge cycle has relatively long stagnant intervals, a sulfur compound can build up on the lead plates inside the battery. This not...

    Are 165/60/15 Vredstein's the correct front tire for a 2023 RT-L?

The 175/55R15 Vredesteins work well on pre-2020 models. BRP trimmed the interior clearance on the 2020+ models and sometimes the 175/55R15 will rub, slightly. But you don't want this. Both pre and post 2020 models do fine with the 165/60R15 Vredesteins. Tires are not identical in size from...
