• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What's the extra Switch on the 2020 RT Limited for?

I bought an aftermarket LED light for under $20 that fit almost perfectly with slightly better output, so I can't comment on the OEM light, but honestly it doesn't do all that much. It is a little bit better at illuminating the road at night right in front of you and a little better daytime...

At what timing/milage should I be changing spark plugs? 2011 RT

IIRC, you're coming up to a valve check interval, so you can easily do both the check and replace the plugs and wires at the same time, which I think is the manual's recommendation. On the twin cylinder engine, the spark plugs are easy to get to, unlike the ACE 1330.

Need a Seat Cushion for my 2022 RTL - any suggestions?

Another happy Air Hawk customer here. However, my wife prefers the Alaska sheepskin cover.

What Life/Mileage can I expect from a 2016 RT engine?

Just for a data point. I traded in my old 2014 RT on a 2020 RTL and when I did, it had about 65k miles on it. Never any issues and it still ran like it did new. Now I've got about 20k on my 2020 and it runs great. (Like I expected it would.)

998cc My current ride is a 2011 RT - is the 1330 that much better?

I'm in your general vicinity, so I know what you mean about not having many resources around. Central Coast Yamaha in Santa Maria is a Spyder dealer. They are so-so at best for purchase and NEVER go there for servicing. The sales manager, Jethro, will let you take a short test ride if they...

Did you keep your bike stock ??

On my 2008 GS, no. On my 2014RT, no. On my 2020 RTL, yes. Other than minor modifications, it just plan works for me as is.

2020 RT - front seat won't stay raised - any solutions?

K80 Shooter came up with the fix. Here's the thread where it's discussed. https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?142257-2020-RTL-Seat-strut

Ride comparison between previous and current generation RTs

I went from a 14 RT to a 2020 RTL, so I'll give you my take. The differences are subtle, but the 2020 variant is an improvement overall. The suspension changes are slight, but noticeable. On my 14 I installed the Baja Ron swaybar and Elka front shock, because I felt they were necessary. On...

What would cause a torn clutch drum? RSS V-Twin SE5

Do you think you got all of the debris out? That looks like a lot loose metal could be floating around inside the engine, which could be catastrophic.

2020 RTL Seat strut barely holds the seat open - ideas?

Okay, I got and installed the parts. They work well, nothing super dramatic, it just works. The seat will now lift on its own and stay up when fueling, which it never did. Adding the plastic tip vs the OEM pot metal bracket tip is a nice extra touch. It does lift the seat slightly higher and...

Any ideas on where to get a Clutch basket?

The earlier 998 twin was made by Rotax for Aprilia, as stated. It's likely Rotax used the same clutch basket on several different models, so you might cross reference the part numbers to see and verify.

2020 RTL Seat strut barely holds the seat open - ideas?

I've grown tired of fighting with the seat on my 2020 RTL too, so I'll try the K80 method. Thanks, Shooter for the part numbers. I've ordered them and will post up my results and observations. ;)

What should I have serviced, 2013 RT with 3,200 miles

The only point I'll add to the good advice given, is that I would also recommend new antifreeze. Not a big deal, but worth doing. I wouldn't worry about a flush, just drain and replace is good enough. I also wouldn't worry about replacing the fuel filter. Fresh gas is good enough there too.

Steering on Spyder RTL freezing unexpectedly - anyone know why? Fixes?

Possibly as bad sensor giving a false reading the "nanny". It's possible that it could be mechanical, but the mechanics of the steering are very simple and basic, so while possible, less likely than a faulty sensor (of which there are more than a few). Now having said that, it always pays to...

This is what I carry. I've only used it once and it worked well. Nice and compact. https://www.amazon.com/Slime-40061-Power-Sport-Inflator/dp/B07N41TXTQ/ref=sr_1_77?crid=TOE1SWA3FSN2&keywords=slime+tire+sealant+kit&qid=1661611283&sprefix=slime+tire+sealant%2Caps%2C134&sr=8-77

My 2010 RTS just went up in a ball of flames

Glad you're okay too. Unfortunately, it was/is a not unheard-of problem with the early models. They had very poor heat management. The above advice is sound for any early model owner. I would also add, removing some of the splash guards underneath to promote air flow and cool the engine...
