• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin Zumo XT Mount power connection - Resolved

We have two XT units. The first had issues as you described. I removed and reseated the power connector in the cradle. I did note that the bottom pogo pin, the electrical contact, did not protrude from the host connector as far as the top one. That would make the effect of any deflection or...

Your thoughts on When to change spark plugs?

I replaced my plugs @ 32K miles. You can judge from the photos whether to change them or not. Yes, it's a major tear down to get to them. I didn't even think about the coils or wires. It did run better after the change.. It isn't only miles, but how many times the spark plug has fired. An...

Here's an article explaining Back Pressure BS!

Perhaps it is terminology in the Spyder world: that being primary and secondary muffler terms in the exhaust system. While the muffler, especially in a car, if far removed from the exhaust port, the header system, exhaust pipe, catalytic converter are all prior to the location of the muffler...

Who Out There Has Gotten The Replacement Sprocket?

We had our three F3 models completed. Drop off in the morning and pick up late day via Freedom Powersports, Weatherford, TX. Took a while to get the sprockets ordered in, but once they arrived, the work was completed with a week. (I had replaced a failed sprocket on one and serviced all three...

    Downshifting vs Braking

In other words, Mike, directed at me and my ilk. Controlling speed or braking: no difference. If one doesn't use the engine, then one uses the brakes. You ride your way and I'll ride my way.

    Downshifting vs Braking

I use the paddle shift on a 1330/SE6 F3 almost exclusively vs letting the TCM do it for me. The computer does the minimum to keep the clutch engaged so you don't go into free wheeling/coasting mode; it doesn't look at engine performance, grade of the road, etc. The engine provides dynamic...

Your experience/thoughts on Spyder vs Other Trikes?

OK, let's split hairs. A differential allows the wheels to turn at different rates; all modern trikes, factory or aftermarket, have a differential. Of course it is "not an automotive style differential" as it looks different in that the H-D is a belt drive, not a shaft drive. It still allows the...

Your experience/thoughts on Spyder vs Other Trikes?

A differential and independent rear suspension are two separate features. All modern trike conversions or OEM trikes on the road that use a rear differential. The alleged "solid axle" means drive axle similar to a rear-wheel drive car/pickup: when the wheel hits a bump or pothole, the up/down...

Your experience/thoughts on Spyder vs Other Trikes?

My experience is dated but has some relevance. We test rode a H-D TriGlide™, a RoadSmith conversion, another odd-aftermarket conversion, and two GS Spyders all on the same day. H-D licensed the Lehman solid rear axle trike design for installation on the TriGlide and subsequent models: it is a...

Made myself an Adjustable brake rod on the cheap!

Nice DIY! Be cautious, though, that as the brake pedal drops in height relative to the footing position, it also changes the ratio of the brake pedal arc and the plunger displacement in the master cylinder. If flattened too much, there were be little master cylinder plunger movement, which could...

After your wisdom regarding Headlight Replacement?

I, too, run with my brights on during daylight. I've had many failures since 2015, some with just a few thousand miles. It seems that there is enough vibration to kill a filament-type bulb, including halogens. We have not had a failure since switching to Lamonster LEDs. (We have Lamonster LEDs...

Sprocket Recall - What's Wrong With BRP's Logistics?

I called Freedom Powersports, Weatherford, yesterday. The service guy stated they were getting sprockets in 1 - 2 weeks upon ordering, but he wanted my VIN numbers to make the order. Doesn't seem they were stocking any.

Sprocket Final Fix Update from Shawn Smoak

I haven't seen parts in-my-hand, but the washer appears to fill the ditch/groove at the end of the splines on the transmission output shaft, and would be assumed to be consumable, just like the sprocket (vs the shaft). I would test the hardness on the washer: it is probably less than the...

    Sprocket vs Shaft final drive

Please re-read my original post. I stated engine rotation alignment and the need for one less direction change. The vehicles you cited also require a differential at the drive axles: the nearly coaxial alignment of the the engine, transmission and drive shaft support the system. With the current...

    Sprocket vs Shaft final drive

A lot of discussion on Smoak's post about belt/sprocket vs shaft as the final drive. I think that discussion deserves its own thread. All drive trains that I can think of that use a shaft as the final drive have the engine mounted such that only one direction change is needed: the engine...

Have BRP's Supply and Inventory problems been resolved?

Slightly off topic: perhaps they have SAP enterprise software, that farce of a company that spread like wildfire through the CEO and BoD halls in corporate America. I worked for a multinational company which, during their attempt to implement SAP, shut down all ordering coming out of Can for 2...
