• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Fuel type---

Oh boy, so many misconceptions and mistakes in this post. Bottom line, Can Am recommends 91 or better, with 87 being acceptable in North America. Premium is recommended for optimum performance. That's in the book, and on the CanAm manual page on the web. If you run 87, timing will be slightly...

1330cc Spyder leaked all the oil out TWICE

I've been working on machinery for 40 years. Copiers and printers specifically, but many intricate mechanical systems with precise repair procedures and adjustments. A piece of paper is about .002 thick. Some of my adjustment specs are +/- half that. In life, the motto is don't sweat the small...

    Helmet Recommendations

I've worn Arai forever. They traditionally have a helmet shape that is more oval, and it fits my bucket head. My wife wears Shoei. They are generally more round shape, and fit her. The point is to get a helmet that fits. You'll be more likely to wear it every time, and be protected properly. All...

Adding GPS to a 2019 RT Limited

Garmin LM50 here, modified to provide audio out. TaoTronics bluetooth transmitter, paired with my Sena headset in the helmet. Charger City waterproof carrier for the Garmin and transmitter. Techmount center mount to hold it all in place on the handlebars...

    Rain Gear

None are going to be cool. Locking moisture out, also keeps a considerable amount of heat and moisture in. Olympia and Firstgear both make fine rain wear that will last a long time.

    Gps

I have a Garmin LM50. Nothing special, a leftover from the car we traded in last May. No audio out, no bluetooth, useless on the Spyder. Hmmm, maybe not. I found an article describing how to add bluetooth to a GPS. The tutorial is written for the Garmin, but I suspect could be applied to...

1330cc Causes for sudden jump in fuel consumption 2017 RTL

One would assume that an increase in humidity would reduce MPG because some oxygen is replaced by moisture. You can only have so much stuff in a given volume of air. ECU's compensate really well in modern vehicles, so there is much less of an effect. bushrat in Florida isn't going to see a...

    2018 RTL One-Click but Won't Start

Batteries can and will show full charge but not have enough reserve to crank. The tender needs about 9v to cycle up and start charging. That's really easy for most batteries, even if toasted. The fact it gets to a green light status isn't very revealing either. BT has had the same Tender...

    Start up after storage

I don't see any reason to. Most folks on the board run some kind of synthetic oil. In addition to flowing quickly at cold temps, if the oil has any ester in it, it will stick to anything it touches. I mentioned Ketjenlube in another post on the board. It's an ester that is wet clutch safe...

    Spyder RT question

My 2012 was very good. No problems. I think it was a good year. The 13's were constantly being complained about with heat. Annoyances: right side was smokin' hot on summer days, cooking my foot. Oil changes were a pain before the panel retrofit. Brakes needed attention often, and the rear...

    Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

You are splitting hairs. Either AmSoil or Mobil 1 are fine. Depends on how long it's in, and riding conditions to say which is finer at any given moment. BRP apparently expects shear and even blesses it when their oil cannot, will not, stay in grade over their prescribed change interval...

New horn might be a problem

You need a relay, as stated. Most Advance Auto parts will have one in stock. From battery, through 10 A fuse to relay input. 12 V wire from old horn to trigger. One to ground, one to new horn. https://youtu.be/N1F8TVcFCEg

    Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

A UOA isn't the end all solution. It will show you a trend if you are consistent with doing them. You go along 4,5 analysis, and see iron trend with miles. then you get a result on analysis 6 showing iron has jumped 3 fold. That might indicate a problem. A UOA is useless if you switch brands...

We Need an Oil Additive Thread

And frankly, you have made a good choice. For the record I did not say every oil containing moly is OK. But, there are a couple dozen MC oils that contain moly, they do not cause a problem. The majority of clutch slip problems are worn out plates, glazed and overheated, and sacked out clutch...

We Need an Oil Additive Thread

That is a myth as well. Check out Redline oils. Their MC oils have over 400 ppm of Moly. The solid moly (MOS2) doesn't work in HIGH concentrations, the tri-nuclear version of Moly does. The only thing in 40 years of playing that I found is of any benefit, (and it is a very small benefit), is...

Disabled the analogue gauges & want to replace with other gauges instead - Suggestions please?

Order the snap in blank plates for the dash from CanAm. Then drill the appropriate size hole in it, and mount. Easily reversed later on if you wanted.

Official Can Am Spyder Shop Manual

Good grief, what is it with Xerox and tricycles? Started at X in 1980, still go to work every day. Centralized, Printing Systems, HLC, iGen, light production, Bourg, roll feeders. Hoping for 8 more years. Back on topic, the links posted for manual download are dead. Any other suggestions...

    Touring Comfort Inquiry

Oh yeah, The R11xx series. Loved mine, R1100RT, the first one in STL after introduction. Got to watch them open the crate and assemble. The radio system showed up a couple months later because BMW did not want to delay the initial orders. A lovely touring bike, as you say, but heavy at slow...
