Weather was pretty decent and I saw quite a few Spyders at Americade, not a hoard of them, but a good presence. We got rain once, but it was while we were eating supper and it was over by the time we were done. I clocked about 1500 miles running around up there, including some 95 deg days with neither a heat problem or a hiccup of any kind.
I got to have lunch with Fred Rau and we talked about the rear tire problem. He got 12,000 miles on his first one, but has only been getting 6-7000 on subsequent sets. He has instigated a problem report with BRP and thinks that Kenda is monkeying with the compound and that BRP may need to check on them. Fred also told me that RT's are now the most sold models of the Spyder. I would guess that's because of the new engine and transmission.
I also got to spend some time with a BRP rep and again brought up the tire problem. He says they are looking into it and that they are also looking for additional suppliers for Spyder tires. We also talked shocks and as I reported elsewhere, BRP has been working with Fox for the past 6 months on a set of adjustable's specifically for the RT. I actually got to see a set installed on the reps 2013 RT and he tells me that although they are not in the catalog yet, the dealers have been sent a bulletin and they are available to order. Price? He wouldn't say, but he said I should save about $300 over a set of Elkas.
BRP was also there with "test rides" and it was the longest line by far. I'm not sure, given how a Spyder handles in comparison to a 2 wheeler if a test ride is a good thing or not, but there sure were a lot of guys lined up all day to try one.
So that's about all I got out of it besides a new pair of Lee Parks deerskin gloves, a new set of ear plugs, and a shade for my GPS. But it was a good trip and a fun time getting my buddies 12 year old daughter out on her first week long tour. I glad it wasn't a typical rainy Americade for her sake.
