There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Are the gremlins at work?

Reported on the high idle glitch today... saga continues. Rode the :spyder2:to Pensacola tonight. Everything is fine. I'm at the gas pump cleaning bugs of my helmet and windshield before I head to Mobile, Al. I start it up and it goes dead shows VSS FAULT. I turn off the key and start it up no problem. I ride all the way to Mobile. Gas gauge showing no bars. I stop fill up 5.162 gal. Start up no problem. Stop and get something to eat. Start up goes dead shows BAD KEY. Turn it off then start it up no problem. I never took my key out of ignition switch either time. Anyone got any ideas? Scotty I read your post on the High Idle...Thanks

update on gremlins

Dropped the:spyder2: off at the dealer 4/30 have not heard back. It was throwing VSS fault almost every time I started it and it would not fire up. Get it to the dealer and could not show them what it was doing. Everytime I tried it was working fine. The fault codes I do remember were indicating loss of comm with VCM. Maybe I hear something from the service mgr today. I'm glad I'm having to work this weekend. It's bad enough to miss Thunder Beach. But to miss it because the :spyder2: is in the shop would be too much of a bummer. :gaah:

Good luck with your Spyder...hope they get it fixed quickly so you can enjoy it on the road! Maybe it's feeling a little down and needs some NMN lights to cheer it up??

Called the service dept today. Got the tech I think was looking at my :spyder2: He's a real jerk. Said the BUDS pulled up 37 occured and active codes. But he could not tell me what the problem was. Said he would have to wait to next week to seek BRP's assistance. At one point in the conversation He said " it acts like someone unconnected the battery while the key was turned on" :dontknow: I asked him about possible GPS problem. He told me 2007's had that problem, but not the 2008's. This is the 2nd time this man and I have not seen eye to eye on issues. Everyone else at this dealership have been friendly and supportive. I will sit back and be patient, but will follow up next week with the service mgr. Since I'm working 12 hr days for the next 2 weeks, but I would love to have my :spyder2:back for my week off. I had planned a couple of long rides to celebrated my upcoming B'day the 16th. Maybe they'll have everything figured out by the 15th (my 1st day off). Oh yea! I'll now have to change my vote from never having an issue with my 2008 SM5. Thanks for letting me vent!!!

This is my 1st issue involving VSS faults with the Spyder. I going to see how the service mgr handle's it next week. I don't want to go off on anyone yet.

I think I'm the one who spearheaded the gear position sensor issue... for the most part.

At first, my dealer said it was all internet bunk... don't believe everything you read... was the quote.

Today, they admitted to changing at least eight of 'em... solving various problems.

Even BRP has now admitted that there was a solder issue in the Generation I sensors.

ATA,

Good work...you have helped a lot of people with this discovery...why isn't BRP contacting all owners of these vehicles and getting them back into the shop for repair??...before there is a problem...I get notices from Lexus with every little thing...even issues that are not important at all. BRP should work harder to fix their problems. These bikes are not cheap and many people are having headaches due to their problems...it's a shame that many dealerships don't even know what is going on.

I'd assume in a year or two all will be fine, but for now, I can see it is very painful for a lot of our friends here...

It appears to be a "silent recall" thingy. My dealer has been told by BRP to replace them if someone complains... not all sensors are problems... appears to be something less than 10% of total. Keep in mind that the "bad" batch of sensors (Generation I) were replaced in production in the fall of 2008.

Plus, on SEs, the GPS sensor may be part of the problem but it appears that the bulk of the problems are in the "normal" clutch hydraulic unit (a heavier duty spring replacement) and even the centrifugal clutch rollers (replacement). I suspect that most of the SEs built (beginning in the fall of 2008) were outfitted with the Generation II sensor... but the spring and rollers still exist.

I believe that any of these issues would be much easier to determine if not for the can-bus (rolling LAN) electrical system.

But... that's JMHO.

Update on the gremlins

According to the tech. I have a special :spyder2: BRP maybe sending in specialist to determine what the issues are with mine. The service tech claims this is the worst case BRP has ever seen. They can't even gets BUDS to communicate with 2 of the onboard computers. 2 1/2 pages of faults. Guess I'll be riding the jet ski this weekend.

Please tell your tech that 2008 was the first model year for the Spyder, and they do indeed have gear position sensor issues.....Friendly and supportive staff doesn't help you much when Bozo The Clown is working on your machine....I'd have been speaking with the GM or owner by now.....
:agree:

Spyder gremlins update

Talked with the service mgr yesterday. After BRP stopped scratching their heads. Told him to disconnect my electrical mods to see if this corrected the problems. My electrical mods are HID lights, triple play and powerlet outlets. The service mgr did not think these mods are causing the faults. He told me he had 2 computers to swap out if that did not work. I'll be glad when they figure out how to fix it.

Is this just the SE5 models? If so maybe I will trade at less than 1000 miles with
