Hi Ron,
If you have comprehensive and collision coverage listed for the vehicles on your personal auto policy: that coverage extends to any rented vehicle.
HOWEVER...
It's generally considered wise to purchase the Collision damage waiver coverage from the rental agency.
Here's why:
Let's say that you rent a car for a day...
...and it gets into an accident! :yikes:
Your insurance will pay for the damage (less the deductible), and everybody eventually is happy again.
Until the rental agency disposes of the car (in an auction)...
They get XXX number of dollars for it... and then come back to you, and say, "We should have gotten XX MORE dollars for it. The damage caused by your accident ended up reducing it's residual value.:banghead:"
Now; they've got your credit card held hostage, while your insurance company has to wade back into the fight... :gaah::cus::gaah:
The scenario was actually dreamed up by the rental companies, so that they could sell the Collision Damage Waiver contract to you...
It sux: but it works just the way that they wanted it to! nojoke
