• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi,
Crappy OEM muffler.......has anyone got a picture of a GS/RS muffler that has been depainted. I hear its all stainless under the paint. Howz it look?? I was debating to repaint.....or get rid of the paint.

Thanx,
Clay

RE-PAINT

If you like shiney it can be done fairly easy with a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder with a mild abrasive disk....once it's bare if you don't like it, you can always re-paint with some 1200 degree BBQ paint.......Mike...

I was wondering the same thing because it is not really "black". Especially when you see it in contrast to black plastics.....I swear it sometimes almost looks brown!

Butch took the paint off and it turned out really nice...I told him he should do that to mine and it's only 4 months old! Here is a photo of it:

Will try and find a pic, but polished looks great. We have a guy here in NZ that cuts the end off the pipe and performs
a bit of surgery to give it some bark. He then puts the end back on and polishes it. Have adde a link below of a pic, that will give you an idea.

Thanx Colin....Butch/Paula for the pictures. I think I am going to go for the take the paint off route. The polished look really nice.....but I am sure he has some kind of professional polishing equipment......I will probably have to go for the raw....el natural look.

Polished

The guy here has a business called Custom Chambers, You could find him on Google and contact him to see if he will tell you what he uses.
Never dealt with him but apparently is a good guy.

Black vs. shine

I took off the original paint with an orbital sander using fine grit wet dry sanding disc. It took about a half hour to clean off the old paint, the hardest part being under the hanger and next to the welds (hand work). It looked really good, but I decided to paint black again using high temp paint. After three months it still looks great (I used semi-gloss black). Frankly, either way looks really good but I went with the stock look and am satisfied. It seems to me that the factory could have used a little better quality paint in the first place!

I wonder...is the muffler on the RT the same as the RS when you remove the paint?? Anybody have any info on it?

Thanks Clay!!
Your post led me to repaint today with the Advanced Auto DEI High temp.
First brake cleaner- Then a Lot of 320 Grit sandpaper -Then more brake cleaner then Spray-
I Like it a Lot better than it was.

Butch used a Scotch Brite pad on a drill (use a mask for yourself) to buff off the old paint. Then used a clear heat resistant spray paint to "clear" coat it. When he washes it he just used a scotch brite pad to clean it up.
