The defender is an 90,000 mile rated tire which replaced the Hydroedge which is no longer manufactured. Have a set in my Prius, love them, and was considering using them on a Spyder when I finally have one of my own.Did I screw up? I just ordered a Michelin Defender 215/60R15 rear tire for my 2012 RTS. Tell me if I dun good or at least
not too badly.
thanks,

The tire you selected has a lower speed rating than the OEM tire, and a less open tread design. It also looks like it has a slightly asymmetrical tread design. I would be careful not to use it at high speeds, monitor the heat closely, and be very careful riding in the rain until you know if it hydroplanes readily. JMHO
Costco had it for few dollars less or so their website says. calling tomorrow. now you got me worried kenny my bald spots are showing too!
Tires with asymmetrical tread patters were designed to have specific inside and outside placements. In some cases the rubber compound also differs. It is possible you'll notice more slip going around some corners, while the same won't be true in the opposite direction.
Thinking of how a car would corner, the weight would shift to the outside of the tire, so that edge was designed to provide better cornering. the same would not hold true mounted on a Spyder where the back wheel would have to have the same properties across both outside edges.
