• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Does Can Am still produce manual transmissions?

gkamer

Sadly passed away, December '23.
I thought I read somewhere that Can Am stopped producing Spyders with manual transmissions in 2014?

No, in 2020 they still had F3 with manuals, but 2021 and 2022 are all SE's, I think 2018 was the last RT's with SM6 transmissions, then F3's had a couple years of SM6 transmissions, but now, all auto all the time...

What they said above. Manual transmissions are getting harder to find everywhere. Most of the new two wheelers even come with driving modes and paddle shifters. I can do my 2017 Outback either manually/ w paddle shifters, or fully automatic. No clutch required.

My very first Spyder was an SM5. Five speeds with a manual. All that was available at the time. I got my spouse one of the first semi-auto (paddle shift/no clutch) in 2009.

Six of seven Spyders, semi-auto instead of manual. I never missed the clutch on the SM5. No notice of power differences. So, I would say, your not missing anything special with a semi-auto or fully auto from the Ryker line.

In reality, the ONLY transmissions Can Am has ever produced/sold for Spyders have been manuals - some with a clutch lever & foot pedal selector, the SM's; the rest with electronic gear selection & 1 of 2 clutching methods, the SE's! But in reality, they're ALL Manuals, either the 5 speed SM/SE5, or the 6 speed SM/SE6! :lecturef_smilie: . Even the Ryker's don't strictly use 'an automatic' transmission, they have a single, belt driven Constant Velocity transmission that is effectively just one 'gear' with an infinitely variable ratio - Can Am does not sell a true 'Automatic transmission' for either the Spyders or the Rykers!

However, if I take your question to mean 'have they stopped producing the SM version of their transmissions for Spyders', ie, those with manual clutch levers & foot pedal selectors, then the answer is YES! ;) . As others have mentioned, the Manual Selector versions (or SM - yeah, I know, but in Valcourte they speak French, and in French it comes out arse about as 'Selector Manual' :p ) have been phased out over the years until now you get one choice - the Electronic Selector version ( or SE - see the earlier comment re appearing arse about in French :p ) which is essentially the same transmission, a manual transmission with an oil pressure/hydraulically operated clutch & electronic solenoid activated shifting system triggered via the flappy paddle thumb & forefinger selector. It's still a manual transmission, it just comes with a very sexy fast gear change process/system! :ohyea:

Just Sayin'

Btw, didja know that the Dual Clutch Transmissions (DCT's) you see in many cars these days, that have what looks like the same old Auto Trans selector lever that's been around for years - they too are still MANUAL transmissions, just with a whole 'nuther set of sexy fast gear change process/systems & capabilities! :ohyea: . It's actually looking like it might be the AUTOMATIC transmission that's soon gonna be dead, but the auto style gear selector will live on, grafted onto the top of some really smart & capable MANUAL transmissions with swish clutching arrangements!
