Federal Formoza OEM size for front is a has been

It looks like the Federal Formoza in the OEM front tire size, 15" for 2013 & later, is now a has been tire and gone from the market. I ordered two from Carshoez eBay store based on the good comments here, especially from SpyderAnn. The guy called me this morning and said when the warehouse crew was getting ready to send them out they noticed the manufacture date was older than what they want to sell. He had no other ones available so I agreed to cancel my order.

Well, guess what. A search for Formoza 165/55R15 on Amazon comes up with zero results. A general search on Google brought up quite a few hits. Several of them were for eBay listings and others were for online tire sellers. Every hit that came up was noted as "Out of Stock."

Just when we find a great tire for our Spyders, they evaporate from existence! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

What's the next best choice, the Federal EVO in stock size, a Continental Contiprocontact 165/60R15, or something else? What about Hankook? Anyone else besides SPYD3R http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...res-Thoughts&p=1224115&viewfull=1#post1224115 have praise for them?

We just purchased 2 from them with date code 0216. Tires look just fine.
I do wonder a little bit if they had an order for 4 and only had 5 in stock so he fed me a line. But they are getting scarce. A check of the Carshoez.com website just now shows only the EVO available in 165/55r15.

I'm using the Hankook Ventus V4 175-55-15 and they smooth and working well with 18 Lbs. I would buy them again.

Are you sure they are off the market? :dontknow:
Try to find them. I suppose it's possible they'll come back. It looks like maybe the Formoza is available in other sizes but the one that's readily available is the Formoza FD2, not the AZ01. It's our size that seems to have disappeared completely.

Discount Tire and Tire Rack both come up with zero hits for any brand for the 165/55r15 size, and no Formozas at all. Pickings are slim for any brand of 175/55 size.

Did you just order these a few days ago? The link is to an order page which is not accessible. Formoza 165/55r15 gets zero results on eBay. Carshoez.com has that size in the EVO only. Maybe you're getting the ones I was supposed to get! :banghead:

Interestingly they appear to be current on the Federal website, so maybe supply just isn't keeping up with demand. The size chart linked on that page shows the 165/55R15.

Was just showing that Formoza are/were available.

They had been "out of stock" for about a week.
I checked every day and as soon as they popped up, I ordered a set of 2 for $114 which included the shipping.
Looks like they may again be out of stock.
If interested I suggest checking their page daily.

I have a set and been really happy with the results so far. Made the handling of the Spyder more responsive IMO.

Sometimes shipments take time to arrive overseas.

Yokohama's are now available in 175/55/15 and like the rear, the actual dimensions are dead on for replacement.

Are thise the S Drive? I've always wanted to have the same tread pattern all the way around but that wasn't an option unless you wanted the crappy Kendas or Arachnid. I got poor mileage out of the one Yokohama I ran so I've been reluctant to go back to it.

The Yoko fronts are Avid S34. Similar but not exactly the same as the S-Drive rear. Then again, the Kenda pattern is different front to rear too. Side walls are very similar so they look good together. S-Drive is unidirectional, Avid is not. So the fronts can be rotated side to side.

Which S34? I'm not finding Yoko's in 175/55 15. Where do you get them? The 55 width is not shown at all on the Yokohama website. The closest one I find is 175/60 15 AVID ENVigor.

I just recently ordered a set of the EVO595's. I have plenty of tread left on the OEM fronts so I will probably switch them out in a month or so. Heard good things about em and bad things. I figure they have to be good because they have flames on the treads. Makes em faster!

Readily
available from most normal tire outlets. It is a new item.

And its also on the Yoko web site. They contacted me when it came out as I had previously asked them about it.

With a UTQG rating of 320 B A, I personally wouldn't choose this tire. 320 is a pretty soft tread compound and a grip rating of "B" is not that good given it's a soft compound tire. Given Ann's riding habits, I don't think it'd be a good choice for her either.

The
numbers from tires of different sizes cannot be compared directly. Also load rating effects these. IE a 65 series tire with a traction rating of A can have the exact same traction forces measured on a 55 aspect ratio and will have a B.

I can tell you first hand these tires grip well, work wonderfully in the rain and will have no problem going 20k miles. They also balance with next to no weights just like the Yoko rears. They are also a far more comfortable ride than the EVOs which are hard and loud and don't do well in rain at all.

Are they the longest lasting tire in the world, no, but that is not what most folks are looking for.

Oh, and they do not say "Hencho in China" on the side of them.

What's your assessment as to how they compare to the Continental Contiprocontact 165/60R15? The Conti's have a better traction and wear rating, both, but I wonder how much it differs when they're on a Spyder. The big plus for the Conti's is price, $80.25 vs $118.60. A minor negative is the Conti's are a touch wider, both section and tread.

I ordered the Conti's today from Tire Rack. The Yoko's are on back order.
