There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Fire shot across my bedroom ceiling!!!!!!

I was reading the directions to my Smoothspyder belt tensioner when fire shot out of my ceiling fan and made a huge ball of fire. Scared the @$/# out of me. This fan has been up for 5 years. Never had an issue. Guess it was just its time to go. Now I have to go change my underwear....

Sent from my Galaxy S3. I may have made a spelling error or may have some grammer issues. My fingers are way to big to type on this tiny screen!

You think that was scary wait until you have to drill holes in your Spyder frame. Glad everything worked out okay with the ceiling fan.

Yow!! Not cool. Have wondered about something like this often.

Have one outside in the entry way that's been running for 9 years. Only time it gets turned off is to clean it. Timing of that depends on dust storms.

Not good.

Yikes! We just replaced one that had been in service for over 25 years, so yours was just a baby. I think I would look for a different brand when I replaced replaced one that failed so soon and so drastically...or a new electrician. Glad you and the house survived to tell the story.

Scarry, glad the outcome was okay. I will continue to not use the two fans that are installed in my place.

Wow! Scary stuff...

Glad you are okay and that it wasn't worse. Underwear can be cleaned much easier than building a new house. ;)

WOWSER! I've done my share of unintentional electrical pyrotechnics. I've been studying the pics trying to get to a source. Did the light kit come with the fan, or did you add it separately?

It came with the fan. What is strange is it didn't affect the wires any further up the center channel. It must have shorted to the edges of the bottom cup where all the lights tie together. It was really loud and by the time I looked up I just caught the ball of fire at the end.

Are those cracks in the bulb sockets? Could be the draw was so great the resistance through the wires at one centralized place broke the insulation down and caused the combustion. tol

Wow..!!

what size breaker is that circuit on..?? It should have never gotten that far..were you running the recommended wattage bulbs..?? That tends to burn up insulation...glad no one was hurt and you were there when it happened...:yikes:

Wow that a scary thing to see when u least expect to have it happen strange thing is ive never seen a belt tensoiner have that effect before glag u caught it at home and killed the power as they said time to look at some new fans hope the spyder mod works out much smother.

I don't play well with electricity either; most of my experience with the darn stuff ends up with me getting a humpstart to my ticker from an unanticipated source...

Glad to hear that your episode was much more manageable! Now we need to hear about the belt-tensioner some more!

Yep! that shorted out big time. glad it didn't escalate.I would replace the entire fan, inspect thoroughly at the ceiling junction box and double check all the connections on the lighting attachments. It is unusual for that to happen but like any appliance, things can go wrong. It is probably on a 15 amp circuit so it would have taken that many amps to kick the breaker. I am curious, did the breaker ever kick?

Ok, I'll ask the question nobody else wants to ask. What were you people doing in that bedroom that made the ceiling fan want to kill itself? Glad you are ok, but stop it.

i've heard of just about everything "deep fried" in the south, but deep fried fans--- that's a new one!:roflblack:
