My Spyder is in the shop for a Fuel sender replacement!

My Fuel gauge started to get erratic and would show a low fuel light 2 miles after fill-up. The Dealer got the new fuel level sender in and I took the Spyder in this morning. Estimated time to repair was 1.5 hours. Called later in the day for a progress report and was told they had been working on it for seven hours trying to get the gas tank off the machine. Also, they were talking about having to drop the motor in order to do this. I have 0 confidence in the dealer's service dept, and I am hoping they don't screw it up completely. I am beginning to miss my old Hondas. They were bulletproof, while the Spyder seems to require constant attention. We'll see.

What dealer are you talking about? let us in on who is doing the work so others might beable to go somewhere else.

I had the same issue. They replaced the whole fuel guage contraption in my tank. They made a minor boo boo when they intsalled the new one... ripped a small bit of the gasket. This caused fuel to leak. It's all done now. Have your shop call Jed at 1-250-338-1415. He's my Spyder go to guy. Plus, he's done it twice, replaced that part in the tank, that is.

Apparenly, the job to replace the fuel sensor and related parts is a real bear. Everything under the Spyder's skin is so compact that repairing anything is extremely problimatical. Got my Spyder back today and all seems fine. I guess that I thought if the factory job time was 1.3 hours, how in the world could the time exceed 8 hours?

In any event, I have the old girl back and hopefully all will be well from here on in.

If the factory estimate was 1.3 hours, a good tech should be able to match or beat it. Sounds like a bit of a learning curve for your poor technician. My old man, who was a master mechanic, used to hoot at me all the time when he thought I wasn't keeping up the pace. "You'll never beat flat-rate at that speed." If he was still alive, maybe he could come look over your tech's shoulder. LOL Glad you have your ryde back.

Went to gas station for a fill-up and on the way home, a 2.2 mile trip, the gas gauge went south again. First showing about half full and then going completely blank. Took the machine back to dealer who questioned how many miles I had driven it since the repair. It was then that I discovered that the tech had entered an incorrect odometer figure. Now their paperwork shows that I have driven the Spyder over 300 miles since I picked it up. The true mileage is approx. 6 miles. Home from the dealer and then two days later a trip to the gas station.

The service writer was not happy to see me as they had put in 8 or 9 hours on a 1.3 hour job. They were already behind the curve as far as reimbursement goes. And now here I am back with the Spyder with the same exact problem.

Will keep you all posted on the progress of this fiasco.

FIRST RUN

as much as it S^&*( it is the first production run ... and we are all going to have to deal with some glitches .... we had to be the first on our block to own one ...well now we deal .... still the rush of driving it out ways the glitches in my opinion ,,,

I sure hope so. I guess I have enjoyed the super reliability of Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and BMW for the last 40 years or so. I'm just not used to things going wrong and then have the dealer not able to fix it the first time out. We'll see.

Fuel Gauge Replacement

Just spoke with the tech at my dealership. Got a lot of mumbo jumbo and when I asked him to put it into straight English, he said they don't know what is wrong and don't know how to fix it. They have a call in to BRP for help, but so far, no response. Monday perhaps. Looks like the weekend is shot for riding.

I may go get my machine back and ride it as is. I did fine with no gas gauge for 50 years. It just annoys the **** out of me to have a problem that's beyond the capability of the dealership to fix. Mutter, mutter

Gas Gauge Replacement

BRP finally got back to my dealer and they are going to replace the entire module. Will be a week or more before the parts are in. I brought the Spyder home. The weather is just too nice here in FL now not to be riding. Took it out today and just chilled out listening to the Hindle muffler sing its song. It doesn't get much better than this!
