• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin Map Update 2024.20

Does anyone actually use BaseCamp? I tried to use it because I really wanted to lay out a trip on my PC and then transfer it to the GPS. But basecamp can't even find my house, let alone create a route nearly as well as the native GPS can. It definitely doesn't seem to be the PC version of the Garmin mapping tool as I was hoping.

I have been using BaseCamp since 2015 and have ridden many thousands of route miles I created using it. It does have a steep learning curve and Garmin's instructions are rudimentary at best. First off, you MUST have the activity profiles of BC and your device exactly the same or the device will control when on the road. Here are a couple of good links to begin with: https://www.newenglandriders.org/learn-basecamp and https://www.youtube.com/@EZMotoTim. EZ Moto Tim's videos are very well done, IMO.

It just takes a lot of practice using BC to get comfortable with the software. That's not to say I haven't unleashed my best bosun mate's vocabulary at times when for no apparent reason the program doesn't do what I expect. Every time I set out on a major route planning exercise, I learn something new. That's life!

MapSource user starting in 2011, then switched to Basecamp in 2015. Is it perfect? No, but has worked fine for me. There is a learning curve but no more so than many of the others. And lots of sites & videos for those who struggle.
