• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin mount question

Hi all! I bought a 2014 RTS. It came with a Garman mounted on the center of the handlebars. I’m thinking about removing that and mounting my phone there. I have a RAM mount that I’d like to use. I’m looking for ideas or suggestions on how to do this please. Also, is there any reason to keep the Garmin when I have a smart phone? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum SprintHawk. If you use google or some other map on your phone and want to get a good phone holder and use it that is fine. Pros and cons to everything. But it will work fine if that's what you like. I have a Garmin that has a bigger screen and more glove friendly then a phone. Don't have to worry about cell tower signal with a Garmin. There is a ball mount that you can get that will go in the same place as the Garmin mount if you want to use your phone in that spot with a ball mount.

You've been given great suggestions. Additional sites are GPS City and Ram Mounts. Personally I'd keep or use the Garmin for my GPS, and I do, for all of the reasons above. On my 2020 RTL I have my phone ball mounted on the inside of my bars with Lamonster's Spyder Cuff and my drink holder is on the other side. I have an additional ball mount for my Garmin XT GPS. I love it.

I would suggest keeping the Garmin GPS and the Garmin mount, for the simple reason that the system is all designed by BRP.
Specifically, the GPS will play through the audio system, so if your listening to tunes the navigation instructions will override and you can hear them through the speakers.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I left the OEM stuff installed. Mounted a ram mount on top of dash and when I ran the wiring, I simply disconnected the wiring and reconnected the new stuff. Worked perfectly.

I made a dash mount out of some scrap alum plate and ram mount the Garmin to it ( along with an analogue clock). I like that mounting position as I don't have to take my eyes off the road ahead to read the map. That old 660LM does bluetooth to my helmet with the Sena SMH 5 ( old school stuff ) and works just fine.
