• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Graphics - Wrap or Airbrush

With a wrap you know ahead of time exactly what you're getting, with airbrush you're depending on the skills of the artist. You may love or hate the results.

With a wrap if you grow tired of it or if it becomes damaged you simply peel it off and start over, with airbrush you have to have the paint professionally repaired, removed or covered.

With airbrush your design will be truly unique, with a wrap you may see someone else with your exact design.

In my humble opinion an airbrush has more artistic integrity than a wrap, but a wrap is more practical.

These are just a few pros and cons. Others will have more.

I chose the wrap option. Cost was a factor and I liked the idea of changing it if I wanted without much trouble. I used a sign shop in Kingsland and they designed it to my satisfaction and they gave me a 7 year warranty against failure (it is marine vinyl) . There are probably a number of places in Jax for that. There is also a Spyderlovers sponsor - http://powersportswraps.com/ - Pete can make you anything you want, or you can pick from his wide variety of stock items. He also makes them pretty easy to install.

Fair warning ... people will be commenting on your ride and wanting to take a lot of pictures ;)

The reasons stated above, along with the price difference, is why I chose a wrap instead of paint. I was skeptical at first, but my graphics have been in place since 2009 and still look as good as the day we put them on. I looked into custom paint before getting the wrap and the price to just paint my black panels blue was more than double what I paid for the graphics kit.

I had graphics on my 2009 speak for my ST RS....loved it...car wash OK...just don't stand in one place and blast it....never had any fading or wear...a plus is...the bugs don't stick to the vinyl like paint...I'm working on a wrap as we speak for my ST...you can do as much or little as you please.... www.spiralusspyder.com

:agree: I have a wrap also and when people see my bike they comment on what a nice paint job I have! Contact Pete at Powersportswraps.com .... great guy to work with. :2thumbs:

As every above mentioned there are way to many pro's and con's for both wraps and paint. I have a full very detailed wrap it was over 1000 dollars to have it designed. I would of loved to have it painted but at the time I was undecided on what theme I wanted. Wraps are very durable and you can wax them to keep them looking like new. I am having the rt painted next winter, I have finally decided what I want and who is going to paint it. |Check out Worldclasswraps.com, the guy(Peter Grant) was a air brush artist for 25 years prior to working in vinyl. If you look at my wrap it has 8 layers of printing on it and if it wasn't for the white between the wrap you would think its paint. I have to tell people all the time it's not paint it's a wrap that's how good it looks. He has many different designs to chose from or like me you have have something completely original that no one will ever have. My wrap is not for everyone and there are even a few areas I don't like but im 95% satisfied with it, but all good things come to an end and it's time for paint, good luck in your search.

If everyone had unlimited funds, painted would be the way to go, however this is not the case, so there is a need for both. I certainly don't have allot of money, but do prefer painting and it's artistic values, so I choose to do a little at a time.

It really boils down to personal preference. I had mine hand painted by brush from Sue Hopper at SpyderFest. She's out of Iowa.

I had a wrap on mine, then damaged one of the panels by running under a tractor-trailers rear bumper trying to get around it, and decided after a bit to get a paint job. the shop had done a paint job on a Spyder before, making one for the Miramar Air Show, so I knew they knew what they were doing. I haven't had any problems with paint chipping or anything like that. trouble is, i'm already thinking of another paint job. haha and my paint job, a blue pearl (more than straight paint) was just $1400. not too bad considering comparible prices.

:agree: When I bought mine Peter's web site was called spyderdetailing.com and that now points to the new worlclasswraps.com site. I continue to get comments on what a great paint job it is even after over 2 years of being applied.

Thanks, I'm not sure how long it took her. She had my bike and another MOGANG member's bike in her trailer so they could dry off. We dropped them off that night and she had them ready by 7:00 A.M.
It cost me $350 to have that done. She did an Emmit Kelley Jr. on the other bike and it looks awesome!

i have a graphic wrap by power sports wrap it completly fills the bike all away round lots of people come up nice paint job i say thanks and leave it at that. the only down side to this wrap is i show the bike in car/bike shows right now on a weekly basis i always end up second place do to airbrushing on other bikes it really makes me mad that some of the airbrushing is just some flames and i still lose out i did take a 1st place the other week but thats only because i was the only bike that showed up thats a real pitty to finally win 1st but only because i was the only choice, but i'll take it nonetheless.i've asked pete to come up with something on his spare time to design me something well see how things progress with him. but in the long run graphics is the way to go like ev1 is sayin you get bored with it ripp it off start over.

Have you ever thought of clear coating over the wrap? If you did this with enough coats the seams would vanish and they would no longer know it is a wrap. At least in my show experience I have had snobbier people actually run their finger along the fender and give a condescending look when they find it is a wrap. :dontknow: Prejudice exists in all kinds of different areas you never may have thought of before. I am fine with mine the way it is, but if you are truly serious about winning more shows it might be something to think about.
