• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Helmet / Head / Hair Problems

Someone else must have endured this problem. When I ride for more than a couple hours I start to get a sensation like my hair is being pulled on the top of my head. My helmet has a strip of padding about 1 1/2" wide running the length of my head at the top. I think that the vibration caused by the wind coupled with this strip sitting on top of my head makes it start to pull on my hair. After a few hours it gets almost unbearable. I rode for 1,000 KM a couple days ago and was having severe pain. I found a travel brochure at a service center and wrapped it around this strip to make it smooth and slippery and things were a lot better. Does anyone else have a fix that you've tried. (Don't think I should have to stuff paper in the top of a $700.00 helmet!!!!)

There is nothing worse than a helmet that causes pain. I always wear a Heat Out skull cap, from Cycle Gear, under my helmet. It is similar to a doo rag but it also wicks away moisture and keeps my hair dry.

Also, you may see if you can get any different guts for your helmet. I know some make cheek pads in different sizes but don't know about what you need.

A silk balaclava may help. I'd also try a differnt helmet to see if it is yours, or helmets in general that cause you problems. Make sure the helmet fits properly. Many riders are wearing the wrong size or shape helmet.

hair

when i bought my BMW i also bought a schubert helmet and at first it killed me. i would take the helmet off and have a big red spot on my forehead, so people told me to give it time to brake in and sure enough is fits nice now. but i always have helmet head with my hair or should i say the few i have left

Please conduct a hairful,..........................er, I mean careful review of my avatar. I believe it suggests a comprehensive, integrated, out of the box solution to your vexing personal comfort issue. ;)

Buff Headwerar make a line of doo rags that can be used in many configurations. look them up on line. they aren't expensive and thats what I wear to keep the sweat out of my face and my helmet from stinking so bad.

Same thing Kris and I wear. They're really nice. I also have the heat out short sleeve shirt.

Head Skin's

I think the answer to your situation could be answered by a "Head Skin." I have one now that I wear all the time I am in the helmet. They come in SM, MED, LG sizes and you can have it any color as long as it is black! They come in two fabric choices, cotton and a silky smooth fabric.

I use a head skin 3/4 because I have a 3/4 helmit. If it is very hot I have a 1/2 head skin. So my call them a do-rag or so on. I have the silk ones.

I have the same problem... or more accurately, *had*.

My helmet fits fine. However, it turns out I've been growing my hair longer over the past year. Like, increasingly hippie long. :joke:

What I noticed is that once my hair got to a certain length, it would inevitably get snagged under the helmet and foam.

No problems for some miles, but after a couple of hours, WHOA NELLIE, would my hair (okay, my *scalp*) hurt. Like, hurt to the point of MYGODTAKETHISHELMETOFFME pain.

Tried silk caps, doo rags, you name it: no help. In fact, usually the opposite, only made it worse.

However, I've noticed in recent months now that my hair has finally got just long enough, it doesn't hurt as much.

Bottom line: keep your hair short, or grow your hair long. It's that "in between" length that causes the most problems.

P.S. In the interim, the thing that helped me the most? Taking off my helmet at fueling breaks. Yeah, inconvenient, but I'm generally in no hurry to get anywhere, so I made it a habit to just get off the bike, take the helmet off for a bit, and take a minute or two to stretch a bit before getting back on the road. Usually that was plenty enough to "reset" the scalp pain.

Another thing that helps is that I try to always take a shower and wash my hair before riding any serious distance. I find that for me combining "bed head" with "helmet hair" is an easy recipe for serious scalp pain.

Can't Help..!!

you have a lot to try and can't add much. The heat out works the best. We also use the heat out shirt and shorts in the heat and they also work wonders...try away and let us know what solves your problem. Always good to hear that we are still effective....!!
