• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Helmet Headsets

Well, since we are heading out from East Tennessee to California in June I'm trying to talk a certain fellow SpyderLover into getting some headset communications.

That way if I get a flat in Nashville I won't have to wait until he gets to Hollywood and finally looks over his shoulder to see if I'm still there.

Not that I'm complaining about his "Keep Up or Shut Up" riding style... Just that sometimes stuff happens.

Anyway, there are so many systems out there. Wired, wireless, bluetooth, GPS 2 way radio, and maybe more.

We need something that will talk bike to bike at a reasonable distance (at least 1 mile would be good - at his usual crusing speed 1 mile gives me about 30 seconds before he's out of range).

Something that will work with XM radio, and it would be nice if it also worked with the Garmin GPS.

And I'd like something that would allow me to plug in earplug sound in place of the helmet speakers.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased the Scala Rider Q2 headsets.
Just got back from a 12 hour day of riding with my wife. For my purposes, I must say I am very pleased. Battery life, intercom functionability all exceeded my expectations.
While I have not yet paired it via bluetooth to a GPS, pairing to our respective phones was easy and very easy to use.
The two available methods to get the XM's sound to the Q2 will be via the XM's FM modulator or the head phone out jack to the MP3 jack on the Q2 unit's base.
In either case - and here is the one however - the quarter-sized speakers are great for reproducing the mid range of sound, but sound 'thin' when reproducing music. And, unfortunatley, they are hard-wired to the helmet's main unit.
Bike to bike communication is advertised at 1,640 feet. But it's only solid for a couple hundred yards.

It does everything you asked for and more. Only drawback is connections (wires). However, I've learned to handle it by either attaching it to my belt or, putting it in my tankbag.

If you think it is something you might want to consider, let me know - I'm selling mine and I have everything that goes with it: Cords, helmet speakers, ear plug speaker adapter, power adapter, GMRS radio, CB radio, etc., etc.

Look interesting. Wires are not necessarily bad. Especially if you are self contained so you don't have to disconnect from the bike every time. What do you want for the setup?

I am looking for some sort of audio/GPS device for my Spyder. I am curious about this JCM unit......Did you like it? Is the volume loud enough for music when going 70mph? How well does the built in FM tuner work?

I see you had yours for sale....did you not like it, or find another system that you like better?
Any comments would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Mike

I also have the Scala Rider Q2 but not the "team" set...just individual since I don't ride two up. I have it Bluetooth synched with both my cell phone and my Zumo 660 GPS. I am going to run both my iPod and my Midland GMRS radio through the mp3 port using a splitter. That way everything will play through the headset

The price for the Midland GMRS (which is what I'm getting) on this site is listed as $81.99 but it is only $68.24 at [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Midland-GXT1000VP4-50-Channel-Waterproof-Rechargeable/dp/B001WMFYH4/ref=pd_cp_e_1"]this site[/ame]
