Hi apeter, & Welcome to the Forum

hyea:
Probably not the best place to ask a question (besides, that last line at the bottom of Spyderbot's Welcome post asks you not to

) and not too many members regularly stick their heads into this area... :dobtknow:
Buut, since your membership processing is clearly finalised and you can post anywhere now, you should be able to ask out in the more Public Pages and get a better response. There is a bunch of info & some threads asking much the same question already tho, so it's probably worth your while to do a bit of searching & reading before starting a new thread (btw, you might need to put up at least 1 post in the Public Pages before you can start that new thread, so don't hesitate to ask for further info in any you do find - but do check the dates to see how recently that thread's been active - archeological or vintage threads might not have many 'still active' posters in them...

) It never hurts to try to briefly state your question in a new thread title either!
But before you go much further, please realise that Forums like this tend to be the places that
MANY members come to find out how to fix/sort the various problems they've encountered with their Spyders/whatever, so to base any decision on 'how many problems they might have' on what you see here would be
REALLY MISGUIDED!! :sour: Of course there's gonna be lots of threads discussing problems people are discovering; but for every one of them, there'll be at least 5 & probably more like 10 or 15 people out there ryding happily who've
NEVER had any issues at all!! :lecturef_smilie:
Even here, many members haven't had the issues others might post about - in fact, bear with me for a bit & let's just have a look at the numbers.... we
know that BRP has sold more than 100,000 Spyders, they passed that milestone a few years back now; and we
know that there's a bit short of 30,000 members on this Forum. Of those members, a bit over 6,000 are '
active', and I already noted that there are
many members here who post but have
never had any problems with
their Spyders.... so let's be
very generous and say that
maybe as many as half of those 6,000+ active members have ever had a problem,
so there's maybe as many as 3,000 Spyders out there that've had problems out of in excess of 100,000 Spyders made...
Orright, maybe it's a bit naive or an outright mistake to just assume that we've got a fair proportion of all the owners of every Spyder that's ever been sold here as a member (altho when it comes to those seeking problem resolution, I think you'd be surprised at how representative our membership might be!

) but even if you just use the total number of members we do have who've here against those who've told us they've had issues, it's probably still fewer than about 3 out of about every 30 who've had problems....
Sure, there's some Spyders with problems, just like with any other vehicle - but I believe that a significant majority of those problems we see here are because of incompetent (or worse

) dealers/techs; at least
some of the other 'problems' you might see here are due to the unrealistic expectations of 'first time riders' who simply don't understand that, due to their inate nature, motorbikes of any sort are going to be hotter, noisier, windier, and a little more 'technically tempramental' than the average auto; and then there's those who just expect everything to be perfect all the time....

And that leaves the rest of us, who recognise that there's a few issues - most of which are relatively minor considering the complexity of the machine, who appreciate that the machines we ride & get
many, MANY [/I]Miles of Smiles from are really quite fantastic machines with many innovative engineering features, some few of which simply haven't been properly realised or executed quite as well as we'd like just yet! :banghead:
But please realise there's very few of us giving them back or up willingky, and there's many more coming FROM those archaic monstrosities like TriGlides & GoldWings etc or leaving two wheels and coming TO Spyders (&/or Rykers) than there are going back - and once most have got past the initial learning curve &/or unlearnt many of the 2-wheel habits that no longer apply, the vast majority of us enjoy the heck out of them! And if you REALLY want to make the effort to develop your ride & learn how to get the absolute best from your Spyder, you'll pretty quickly work out that there's not too many other things on 2, 3, or 4 wheels that'll outperform, out ride, or outbrake a properly set up Spyder riden by someone with the skills & Spyder Ryding experience thru the twisties & short straights - it's really only once the curves start opening out & the straights start getting longer that Spyders begin to be held back by the dirty great wall of air they hafta push ahead of them!

All that said, & besides those threads Spyderbot recommended above, here's a sample thread or two that might help you a bit more:

And there's a whole lot more on the boards already besides that lot, but this post is already enough of a saga....
