There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hulme CanAm Spyder debuts in London

This is a different CanAm Spyder folks, not the one, we all already love dearly.

The Hulme CanAm Spyder we reported on last spring has made its first UK public appearance in London ahead of its journey to Goodwood for this weekend’s Festival of Speed.

The four-wheeled embodiment of decades of Kiwi motor racing heritage and expertise, the Hulme carries the name of New Zealand’s only F1 champion Denny Hulme who, together with fellow countryman Bruce McLaren, put their homeland on the motorsport map.

The McLaren brand has, of course, evolved into something else and remains at the heart of F1 and, now, supercars too. And while McLaren’s roots have been diluted the Hulme’s Kiwi heritage and national pride is worn on its sleeve.

The bright orange paint and Chevy V8 in the back of the CanAm Spyder hark back to the McLaren-built CanAm racing cars driven to great success by McLaren himself and Hulme back in the 60s and early 70s.

The carbon fibre technology used in the CanAm Spyder’s construction and the design are purely contemporary though and benefit from local expertise in building racing yachts for the America’s Cup.

Weighing just 980kg and with at least 600hp from the 7.0-litre Chevrolet V8 engine, the Hulme combines the kerbweight of a Lotus Exige with power to humble even the latest supercars from Ferrari and, yes, McLaren. A sub 3.5-second 0-62mph time and 200mph+ are promised.

Clearly the Hulme is a much more hardcore and minimalist machine than these more mainstream rivals, the open cockpit showing off the exposed carbon construction and bare-bones interior. A manual gearbox and no-nonsense air further the sense of old-school thrills.

Just 20 cars will be built with pricing yet to be confirmed but likely to be considerably more than the £295,000 originally mooted. Hulme figurehead Jock Freemantle promises Pagani-like quality in the finished product, the exclusivity and links to New Zealand’s motorsport royalty the icing on the cake.

You can see the Hulme in action this weekend at Goodwood in the Microsoft Windows 7 sponsored Supercar Run and in the related Supercar Paddock where Tiff Needell will be on hand to talk more about the cars on show. Be sure to stop by and say hi!
