• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Humming noise when front removed

Getting the Spyder painted right now in Circleville WV. Mike Lamborne of Mountainman Art is doing it for us.
When I took the front off to get the lower front panels I noticed a bit later a low volume humming coming from over the engine somewhere. The key was off. All of the electrical connectors were obviously disconnected from the front end. Had to disconnect the positive terminal on the battery to stop the humming. I assume this is normal, didn't something being disconnected and probably should have the battery disconnected before un-hooking.
Just want to make sure this is normal.
Thanks
Rick

Little checking..!!

If the roadster was hot when you started dismantling it then it is normal shut down noises. Sometimes last 45 min's or so. Many times we walk away and never hear it. Some garaged unit will be heard when going back out to get that beer in the cooler...pic's when you get her done...!! ;)

Every time you turn off the key, the routine for preventing hot restart problems will make the sound for 40 minutes. Removing the front bodywork will make the sound louder. Hook the battery back up and get used to the sound. It is both normal and necessary.

Thanks,

Evidently the computer is energized partially even with the key off. It knows when you disconnect certain things.
I had taken the sides off before, but not the whole front.

I doubt it had anything to do with you disconnecting anything. If you had the key on, then turned it off, the throttle positioner will hold the throttle plates closed and make the sound...whether the Spyder was running or not. Turning on the key to set or release the parking brake is enought tpo intiate it, for instance.

You were right. Put the power back on it after I ran wiring for the USB outlet and the Zumo 660 mount. You hear it for a little while then it stops.
The paint looks good so far, just a lot of work.
Thanks,
Rick

Below is a picture of the hood that is painted but not clear coated yet. Will clear coat when we get more panels ready.

That Frunk lid looks amazing. Do you do work for others? I'm interested in something on the rear mud guard piece ( it's Pearl White) of my ST Ltd and i like your style. Not sure what you charge, but i'd like to know more.

One of our good friends that we know through our Business, Value-Accessories, is doing the painting. He has done all of our bikes for almost 20 years. I think he is one of the best bike painters out there.

Custom Painting by one of our good friends and one of the best bike painters there is, (Mike Lamborne) MountainMan Pinstriping and Murals.

You can have regular pinstriping or murals done at rallies or you can send him pieces. You just need to give them a call if you want to send something and or get a price. Everything being done on our Spyder is done at the shop because it is all air brushed and then clear coated, a lot of pieces.
I am actually staying down here with them for a few days taking everything apart, sanding and prepping.
They are in Circleville WV back up on the side of a mountain, absolutely beautiful up here. I have been here 3 days, later this afternoon I am riding my VN 2000 over to Washington DC to see our oldest son for a couple days then coming back here.

He has done a lot of painting on Spyders, but after seeing me take this all apart he will not take one apart.
Below is a picture from just above their house. Taken last Summer when we stopped by on our bikes.

Mountainman Art

Thanks for the heads up on MountainMan Art. As soon as I decide exactly what I want on the rear tire guad, i'm definitely contacting him about shipping out the piece for him to spray:yes:
