Latest ... TIRE ... testing info

BLUEKNIGHT911

Sadly Passed Oct 2024 - RIP
I just saw a tire testing video on U-tube ..... They were very professional about the testing, very impressive facility .... They did NINE new All-season tires ( 2021 models ) ..... Well there was one tire that completely blew all the others away in it's performance on WET roads.... Yep it was the new Vredestein " Quatrac " ( replacing the Q-5 ) ..... picture a line graph about 3 inches long ( best to least ) the line for the Quatrac was 1/4 in. the next best was 2 in. ( the least was 3in. ) ....Outstanding :clap::clap:.... another tire that did very well was the Michelin Cross Climate+, and CC Two( I reported on this about three months ago. Yes there were some other great tires - However they don't come in sizes we can use .... I'll try and find the Video & test and post the Website ..... Mike ......See post #7 ... for a link ......Mike

Great info Mike, especially since I plan on putting either Quatrac or a Cross Climate on the rear soon. I'm leaning more toward the Quatrac.

Ive recently put the cross climates on my RSS, and they grip the road going round bends like sh*t to a blanket, been hitting the apex of corners quicker than on the kenda, amazed how much difference they make.

One thing to note is that the walls on the tyre are a bit wider so had to move the wires that run up the fender legs to ensure they don't rub on the tyre wall, lose about 5mm on the gap between fender and tyre

If you fit the Michelin CC on the rear that's what I would recommend ..... this is based on the test results ......Mike

As a note here< Vulcan tire still does not carry the Quatrac tire. TIRE RACK has them (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Vredestein&tireModel=Quatrac)
The 1st and 2nd place tires in the test don't come in 15 inch sizes.
Notice all of the tires tested have the same tread pattern.

T.P.

:agree: and the size issue has always been a problem for Spyder owners ... the Very Best hasn't often been possible because of this reason .... However the ratings for the CC + ( 15in.) are only 1/10 lower than the CC plus (16in.) ( at tirerack.com testing ) imho they are still incredibly good. The Vredestein comes in sizes for the front ... the Michelin only for the rear .... Mike ....and thanks again for the LINK ..... Mike

After not finding the Michelin Cross Climate 215/60-15 on their site, I contacted them and they said Michelin doesn't make it in that size.
I'll go back and see if they make a 225/50-15.

I Run the 175/65-15, and they fit properly, no need for adjustments, rear tyre is still a Kenda, cause I shredded it, and needed a new one quick.
But I would deffo go, for the 205/60 R15 95V XL

They track like on rails, I am also lookin at the Hankook rs4 for the rear, 225/45-15, they are quite good in the dry, but is a semi racingtyre, so it won't last that long i think, but reiews state that they grip like hell..

Dunno, overhere (Netherlands), it is readily available, but look for the new hankook RS4, they do also well in the tests, not so good in the rain tho.... (bit like the crappy kenda's)

Also Like the treadprofile on the hankook tyre, looks aren't that important I know, but that's in the eye of the beholder....

I find it interesting that you show no interest in the Vredestein tires I have told you about ..... they are made in your Country, and are the best Spyder tire to date ..... what don't you like about them ???? .... just curious ..... Mike

To satisfy your curiosity, Mike... I don't like the treadpattern on the Vredesteins, imho looks do matter, and overhere we don't have strong winters, I don't drive much in the rain, so I don't see the need for an all seasontyre.
Just looking for grip, and aestecic appeal. I know you have a valid point bout tyre life, and costs, and I just love the way you share your knowledge on tires/tyres.

Hope to have shed some light on matters, :)

Thanks for a reply ..... and the new " Quatrac " looks a lot different than the older " Q-5 " .... and the rating has improved a little ..... Mike .....PS thanks for the compliment
