There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Leaking Valve Cover Gasket? Is this common?

Went for new brakes and I was told I need a valve cover gasket. I have never seen any oil on my garage floor. I also was told I need new gas lines on a 2009 with 10k miles. Is this common? 998 cc

If it is the front cylinder valve cover gasket they say is leaking it might instead be dripping down from the airbox. Oil mist blows into the airbox and if there is quite a lot it dribbles out of the upper and lower half join and runs down onto the front valve cover.

I would recommend a second opinion. I suspect the dealer may be taking advantage of a newer owner here. Many people with the 998/2 engine got taken by the "required by BRP" valve jobs. They were recommended at 14K mile intervals. I had one done on my 2008 at 14K and no adjustments were needed. I waited until 28K on my 2010 and no adjustments were needed. I did not do any further valve adjustments or gaskets. I was going to have them looked at when they reached 56K but traded off before that time. Your labor quote was cheap. I paid $1,500 per job. I note you are new to the site. Read up on valve jobs and gaskets and form your own opinion. I experienced leakage on the 28K job because they "forgot" to install the new gasket. That fix was on "their" dime. 10K is way to early for the valves to be worked on.

Thank you! They charging $900 for labor only. Is it something I need to change right away?

YES YES YES ......you need to get another opinion .... I've been in this web site for over 9 years and NO it's not common .... I'm pretty sure a cylinder pressure test is in order form someone other than that dealer ..... good luck .... BRP states you need the have the Valves checked on the V-twins every 14,000 mi., however many many folks here have discovered that the VALVES DON'T need adjusting .... some her have gone over 100,000 miles without valve checks ..... :agree: .... and many here have fixed that issue by dis-connecting the hose from the Air Box and putting a pieces of foam ( PM Bajaron for pics ) in the Airbox hole .... then get a Fuel type filter and connect it to the Hose ..... Ron can explain it in detail ..... Mike

It's not the miles, but the time that you need to be concerned about. Good advise on the valve cover gasket. That should not be too difficult to confirm. If it is the gasket, the oil issue will begin directly BELOW the gasket. If it is coming from the air box, you will find evidence of oil in other than directly below the gasket.

Have you 'Topped Off' the oil lately? Have you checked the oil level lately? If so, how did you go about it? Did you check with a cold engine before startup? All possible contributing factors to your issue. But I would certainly look a little closer before springing for a $900.00 fix. I hate to say it. But they could just clean up the mess, charge you, and you'd never know the difference.

I am not saying that they are wrong. If it is a valve cover gasket, then good for them. If not, good for you.

Thanks I will have to check those things. My bike is at the shop right now. They did a safety check while waiting on my rotors to come in. I haven’t checked the oil. I put 3k miles on it since I purchased it from a dealer.
