There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Looking for gel seat cushion info

I’ll try to keep this short. Eventually when we upgrade to our next spyder, thinking 2020 model, I want to get a Russell day long seat. Until then I would like to get something to “take the edge off” of the factory seat on our 2014 rts. Seat now is good for about an hour and half then gets uncomfortable for me and wife. I have an airhawk presently and it helps, but need to get something for my wife and she is thinking of a gel style cushion. Not wanting to modify existing seat, so probably not looking at an insert, but more of an on top the existing seat option.

Would appreciate any thoughts and ideas that others may have, and thanks as always!

Gel Cushion Seat

Worth a try? In Amazon

[h=1]Kieba Coccyx Seat Cushion, Cool Gel Memory Foam Large Orthopedic Tailbone Pillow for Sciatica, Back, and Tailbone Pain (Black)[/h] Kieba

Depending on your budget for "taking the edge off the stock seat", you might want to take a look at the Large Airhawk-R.

Purple.com

Take a look at the seat cushions at http://purple.com

I got the portable purple cushion this spring. Still evaluating since I haven't been able to do a long stint on it yet, but so far it looks very promising for a minimal investment!

If left sitting out in the sun, gel gets REALLY hot......and stays HOT for a LONG time.
I think that sheepskin might be a better choice.......and might be useful with the custom seat too.

The Airhawk R which is their largest really helps to extend the ride.
Keep in mind that less air is better than too much air.

So far.....

My wife did try the Airhawk yesterday for the last hour or so of our trip home, but didn't love it. I am kind of liking that Purple website and may look at one of those and trim it a little to fit the passenger area??????
I hadn't realized that Gel would get hot and retain the heat, thanks for that info!

With an Airhawk--you sit "IN" it and not "ON" it. You have to play with the air pressure until you get it right for you.

Alaska Leather also sells a Sheepskin/gel combo. I have used both when I had hip issues.

I saw the Purple cushion at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They had a hard chair and cushion for a demo. It felt OK but I thought it was overpriced for what it was. Instead, I bought a MUCH less expensive kitchen floor mat and cut it into two pieces the shape of my old Air Hawk and put them both inside that cover. That gives me a gel pad about an inch thick and I have a sheepskin on top of that. I think the mat cost me 15 bucks. I haven't done long trips with that set up yet. But (butt) I can adjust it if needed. (Take one layer out, put air bladder back in, eliminate altogether, etc.)

One of our sponsors here motorcycledave sells a a gel cushion such as he uses for seats and beds for orthopedic equipment he makes.put this pad in my seat and it turned a 2 hour seat into an all day seat. Yes you do have to remove your seat cover to install it but it wasn't that hard and Dave was nice enough to answer his phone on a Saturday to help me thru it. I did buy an air staple gun but that was only about $25.Dave gives you everything else you need to do a good job with no visible wrinkles. It cost me only about $30 to do it.If you don't think you can do it any upholsterer can do it fairly cheap. having someone do it for you you still not be into it more then $125= gel.

I created a similar post over a year ago. I bought some suggestions that did not work, then took a great suggestion and made it better, now we can both Ryde for hours. Previously about an hour and a half and I was in pain.

I bought the full Misty Mountain sheepskin and rode with it for a while, the improvement was very real and it works just as he promised, cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

I then went to Jo-An fabrics and bought the 3 inch thick upholstery foam, took it home, cut it larger than both seats on the side to offer more hip support. I placed those pads under the MM Sheepskin and viola, my day long seat is in place. Seriously, this works, for less money than the Airhawk, and Misty Mountain will guarantee you like it or he will take it back. All of that being said, I really like the way it looks on the Byke. Since I bought mine I know of two of my friends that bought the skin and they are happy with just that.

Trying something a little different first

So, my wife being the innovator that she is, is thinking of trying padded bicycle shorts as a first step.......
So I just smiled and said great idea hon!

Can you post pictures?
