There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. looking to get my first Spyder RT

Questions

Ok I have been looking at Spyders in internet, found a 2010 quantum blue with a trailer that i really like. yesterday got to sit on a 2013 RTS that was real nice. but read posts today and sounds like 2013 may have issues. I may get shot for this but are bike dealers as bad as car dealers (not all car dealers) just want to make a sale, despite problems with the unit? i want to hear from you owners on what to do. I am waiting to get some health issues taken care of and possibly selling my company and purchasing a great escape ride. I have had 4 back surgeries with hardware in lower back thats why we are looking at RT with sitting.

Welcome aboard!

Lots of choices - new 2014's out in a few weeks - . I decided on a 2010 RT-S for under 1/2 cost of new. You will enjoy whatever Spyder you may choose. Ride safe and welcome.

:welcome: NO doubt; shopping is more than half of the fun!!:ohyea:
Buying new, versus used, has always been one of the toughest decisions... Dealers are in business for one reason only; to make money! That's not a bad thing; without them, we'd have no place to spend all of this annoying cash that keeps piling up around the house! :D
Don is right; the 2014s will soon be out; why not wait just a little more time to see what's coming??
But I sure dig the 2010 BLUE!

Have you rode one yet?
Might be a good idea to test ride or rent one to see how your back handles it.Thats a lot of money to plunk down to find out!

My boss told me the same thing, felt good sitting on it riding will be a different thing, dealer said we could ride it around their area abit.

choices, choices..!!

There are issues with anything you buy. Used has it's risks, new will have issues till proven, first runs need consumer testing. But the 2014's are coming out the 15th and the changes will be seen. At that point you can judge which path is best...consider models and cost. Good luck..hope to see you on the road soon..!!

:welcome: You pose some difficult questions. Bottom line is that half the fun of buying is the shopping.

:ani29:: Do recommend a test ryde to make sure the :spyder2: will work well for you. With back issues, the RT seems the best way to go. PS. I have back and hip issues.

:ani29:: Are :spyder2: dealers like car dealers? Some are even worse. Important to work with a dealer that has a good service department and a good reputation. You can get some information by asking or doing a thread search by name. Proper servicing of the :spyder2: can make or break your happines with the new :ani29:.

:ani29:: New vs. used: I would hold out to see what 2014 brings about. Lots written about 2013's and you should decide on that one. There are also some very good deals on used around. Have dealer check vehicle history to see about any service issues/problems. If the used is from a SL member, you can get a pretty good idea about the :spyder2: by checking on previous posts. Members write both good and bad.

Good luck on your hunt. Let us know what you decide.

As "Spyder4Tess" said, buying a Spyder is an expensive way to find out whether you like it or not, or to find out whether your back likes it or not.

I'm in the same position as the original poster -- looking to purchase my first Spyder; I've never owned a motorcycle of any kind. I took two test rides at two different dealerships. One was a short "around the block a couple of times" deal; the other was about a 10-mile, 20-minute route, following the salesman, on city streets and a stretch of freeway. But to be sure, I plunked down the money to rent an RT for three days in early September -- a friend with a Harley came along as a guide/coach, and another followed in a car so we could all have meals together, etc. We had a blast, and I spent some bucks for the rental, motels, etc. But we did about 750 miles in 72 hours (Tuesday noon thru Friday noon), and the experience was a good one. So I'm now shopping -- without the nagging doubts that I might spend a lot of money and then not like what I bought.

My 2010 RT S has been rock solid. 19,000 miles so far and every mile with a smile. The auto leveling suspension works great and is a comfortable ride. If you have enough money to spring for the new 2014 I would go that direction. Read about them on this forum and you'll know why, bigger engine along with many improvements. If the funds won't allow for a new one there are many good 2010 thru 2012's out there. You might even find some new 12's still in the show room somewhere or still in the crate. I bought my '10 in June of '11 at a good discount. May be able to do the same for a '12 somewhere.photo (3).jpg Good luck.
