New 2012 RTS-SE5- seat won't release---or Latch

Anyone have an quick and easy way to get the seat release to work? Our new Spyder worked fine for about 3 times getting fuel and putting the battery tender on, but now the seat won't release to open anymore, and when you got to close it, it won't latch tight.

Are you sure that there's nothing down there that's getting in the way? :shocked:

It sounds as if a quick trip to the dealer for an "adjustment".

I had this problem when Cold air folllowed a Very Mild (Fogy) day and the Key would not turn to the right as it was frozen?

Another thing to try is put pressure down on the front of the seat AS you turn key to the right until you feel the seat release.
I have to do this every time I open the seat!

Don't panic, this happens to few member and able to work it out. Push down and wiggle and hope you'll get it working like the others.

There are three places for adjustment. The most likely place for problem is the 'plunger' on the bottom of the saddle that latches into the hole. I believe that piece can come loose and get out of alignment. It needs to hit the center of the hole & tightly secured in that position. Use medium strength thread locker.

Also, I believe the hinge in the rear of the saddle has some adjustment. If that has moved, it could cause the same type of problem. If this is the source, it should be adjusted first, before making changes with the plunger up front. Use medium strength thread locker.

Also, the latch device that the plunger goes into could be a source. Make sure it is operating properly & without bind. It should be lubed according to your manual, probably a small amount of silicone grease.

Because you mentioned that the saddle can be hard to close, I doubt if the key is the problem, although it is possible to stress the key &/or the key lock mechanism if the latch is too tight.

Battery tender

If you purchase or have the proper connector you can plug your tender into the cig plug in the rear trunk. That'll save you from having to lift the saddle. Just a thought.

Some adjustment, and lubing the latch and post, would cure that. It doesn't have to be that way.

From your post you can get it open and closed but it's a hassle. If so then follow the adjustment procedure above. If you need to open it to do the adjustment turn the key to the seat release position and put pressure on the seat latch area then pull up till you get it open. Good luck..:thumbup:
