RECC Quit - 2012 RTS SE5

On my way home from church today and noticed that the up and down buttons to change tracks on my ipod had quit working. I pulled over to sort that failure out, and discovered that my gear selector lever had also quit (no reverse, no shift up). Pulled the key and walked away...came back and restarted...still no joy. Pulled the key again and started collecting my crap for either a tow or a cab ride. Decided to give it one final try...and it worked. Stopped at Walmart on the way home and things are still working. Any ideas?

:shocked: Did you try pulling any active codes?
It might help your dealer track down the source of the problem...
If it does it again: get the codes.

Hmmmm

The entire Multifunction Switch Left (MSL) is operated by the CAN Bus. No other external power supplied. Essentially, the MSL is itself a CAN Bus Module. A loss of communication with it should trigger a code - more than likely a U0259 if the problem lies with the MSL itself. Or another "U" code if the problem lies at the receiving end, such as the cluster. So, as stated, if it happens again, BEFORE you turn off the ignition, check for a Check Engine Light and see if there is any code set. You could just be looking at a damaged wire situation, or the module could be trying to die, but it's nice to know where to start looking.

Edit: Someone came on here a few weeks ago with a problem - just can't remember which component it was - where they did some excellent troubleshooting and discovered a loss of CAN Bus power to it. Traced it down to a chafed wire harness where it passed through an area in the frame. Fixed it themselves. So it happens.
