Removing the trunk?

Good morning,

I need to remove the trunk assembly and was wondering if some one could give me some info on which panels need to come off, where the bolts are and which wires to disconnect.

Now I haven't done this so it's all conjecture... pps:
My gut tells me that everything has to come off... :shocked:
I'm saying this because the big side panels that stretch all the way back to the saddlebags probably need removing...:yikes:
Once you're back into there... I'd start seeing what panels can be removed from the top trunk and the inside of the saddlebags... that should get you to some seriolus mounting bolts.
But if you really want to be sure: contact Lamont! :thumbup:

Just for clarity---- the TRUNK and not the FRUNK?

You should have a shop manual before you do this job .:dontknow:

This is the Readers Digest version

The seat comes off, the mirrors,wind deflectors,all the side panels behind the mirrors to get to the 4 bolts under the seat that basicaly hold the trunk section on,a number of wires need to be disconected and you should have help to slide the trunk off to set it on something that will not damage the underside. Its a lot of tupperware that comes off but if you are handy at all ,it's not that tough off a job . But as stated you should order a shop manual of E-bay 10-20 bucks as it will take you step by step through any disassembly and repair / maintenance procedures .

Im sorry, I did mean the "Frunk". From what I have gathered so far I have to remove the mirrors, the front garnish, and the black filler panels. I then take out 4 bolts (two under the garnish and 2 under the "Frunk". The manual says there are wires that need to be disconnected but they do not show where these are.

There are several cables along the top rail that can be disconnected before bolt removal. Also, you will find one or two, lower and partially hidden, as you move the frunk assembly forward. It pays to block and pad under the frunk as you unlatch it so that you can ease it forward to release the lower electrical plugs.

Agreed with all. Get the manual, so when you panic, you read it again and it takes off the edge of the panic .

It's not that bad. Not nearly as bad as I thought it might be. I have the RT and it was 4 major bolts, after taking off the skid pan, then unplugging about 4(?) connectors. I put my floor jack under the frunk as I got most everything unbolted and used it as a 'rest'. I lifted the frunk, pulling forward and up, let it rest on the floor jack, then disconnected any wires I had forgotten.

An EASY help these days- take pics with your phone as you go. It helps when you are reassembling to remember where things go.

I,m getting the impression getting to stuff is a lot harder on the RT than the RS? Am I right?:dontknow:

Thanks for all the input. The connectors that I could not find must be the ones up near the shock towers. And I have to remove a skid pan somewhere to get to the bottom bolts?

Mine is an RS and all I had to do was remove two bolts and it was off.. Then changed out the panel and put the bolts back in. Just had to make sure the latch was matched up correctly so it would shut properly. And all done.. Good luck! Hope yours is just as easy
