Riding Two-Up on a Spyder?

I'm going to be going out with someone on the back of my Spyder ST Limited for the first time this weekend. I have a Can-Am backrest installed.

Is it better or does it make a big difference whether she holds onto me or the hand holds?

When I turn I lean into the turn and a bit forward. I am thinking it is better of she leans too?

Thanks!

Lean too?

My wife and I have only been riding the Spyder for a couple of months, having moved from a GL1500 Goldwing, but we find that having her move with the rider seems to work best. On the Wing she sat up straight when the bike leaned, on the Spyder she "provides" the lean. Seems to work for us.

Well now that rather depends on whether she's a keeper not, duzntit! ;)

If you like her, tell her to hang on to you, otherwise tell her it's important that she hangs onto the handholds & just doesn't let go!

Hehe... I think I'll tell her to hold on to me tight!

Agree with her moving with the driver. My wife loves the back rest and is usually on the hand holds.

My wife leans most of the time but not always. I don't take the corners very fast when she's with me, so I haven't noticed much of a difference one way or the other. She always holds on to the hand holds.

As I see it...

I ryde double up most of the time and find that the stability of the spyder allows the passenger the choice. Because the spyder does not lean if the passenger does not lean with you it does not effect the handling. Now coming from two wheelers my wife does lean with me on the wild roads but holds the rails but on the lesser turns sits upright. I do ryde aggressively and we have a lot of fun doing so, nanny not that happy, but this is what I have found....

Just be sure and check every couple of hundred miles to be sure she hasn't fallen off!

Agree

Have to agree with Gene on this. It just doesn't matter. The driver is closer to the front wheels and that probably makes a difference when leaning. The passenger can pretty much do what they want. On a cold day, when I have ridden on the back with my wife driving, I'm using the heated passenger grips. You will probably feel in better control if she is not squeezing the life out of yiu too!:roflblack:

I see a pattern here
Most of the posters have wives that ride with them
and they hold the passengers grips
can we hear from riders that have girlfriends ride with them
do they hang on to you or passengers grips
I know where I have them hang on :yikes::yikes::roflblack::roflblack:

When I ride with the girlfriend she usually hangs onto me and then my wife holds onto her. Wait maybe I read your post wrong.

RE: Leaning--the passenger should follow the driver and lean when the driver leans.

Hand holds vs. person--Most passengers use the hand holds. Some drivers may have back issues and may not like the extra pressure.

A good thing to have a passenger along, but recommend not riding to aggressive. Holding on for dear life is not a happy ride. If they like that kind of ride--then it's okay of course.

Linda rode one summer as a passenger on my RT (over 10,000 miles). It was a "cozy" fit for both her and I. I had a Corbin seat with a driver backrest. The next season, I taught her to drive and in June, I purchased a new RT just for her to drive. We like our separate :spyder2::spyder2:'s a lot better.

My " Honey " uses the hand holds . At the Spyder course I took , they stressed that because the Spyder does not lean like a 2 wheeled bike the lateral forces in corners can create problems if the passenger suddenly puts that extra force on the driver who is already countering against it . Sounds legit so I tell her she is on her own unless she sees me falling off
